web hosting directories

What are peoples consensus in promoting your web hosting services through a web hosting directory? Does anyone have any experiences with this sort of promotion?

We are about to embark in a few areas and wanted to get some advice.

Thank you

When I first started doing web hosting I went to every web hosting directory I could find. Submitted my site and I'd say it paid off. Nowadays, half of them charge just to get in it, but I would highly suggets get a big list, sit down for 16 hours and submit away. That's about the time I put into it and I'd say I got maybe ten orders directly due to that, but word of mouth probably turned that into 20 over the years, maybe more. I rough estimate is that 16 hours of work translated into about $2000. But times are tougher these days since there are 3 web hosts for each 1 web site on earth. :cheesy:
