It takes alot of time to get listed on dmoz so that is not really a reliable option and as far as yahoo is concerned its more of money making/ripping machine, they wont list you for free and I have seen and witnessed alot of people getting rejected even after they paid for listing.

I really dislike "free directories" because most of the time they are extremely difficult to get listed in and it's so friggin time consuming and you get little PR. I am a BIG fan of semi costly paid directories such as yahoo, botw, and goguides. I've seen these links alone do WONDERS for organic rankings many times. (you DO have to have some decent optimization too of course)
