Doorway Pages

Can I get some advice on Doorway pages. I have heard that they maybe a good idea, however I hnave a feeling that the search engines may have clamped down on them. Any ideas?

Thanks

I read somewhere that Search engines penalise you for doorway pages as what alot of webmasters do is create a doorway page with alot of keywords they wish to target its one of the underhand tactics in the SEO world.

I have heard they are not a good idea for the same reasons, webdesigners are loading doorway pages with keywords. I would not do it.

well, it depends on how you do doorways.

If you openly link your doorway to your main site, or use some very simple redirect, it will get parsed by the spider, then categorized as a doorway and then the doorway and later your actual site will be banned.

There's smarter ways though, one good way is to have a net of doorways linking to each other and then redirecting to the actual page in such a way that the spider won't parse it, and even if the spider bans the doorway (which will be unlikely because it will seem like a regular site with careful generation) your site will stay safe.

A doorway, by definition, is a page that once you've left it you can't navigate back to - so the post above sounds good.

Rather than doing classic doorways, just put alot of content on your site, but spread over alot of pages. Have a site map, be proud of those pages and know that they are useful to any visitor. But because they are single issue/topic pages they will by optimised by default.

google and major SE's will either ban your site or remove you from the index if they discover doorway pages. google states this under their guidelines for webmasters.

You'd be afool to use a doorway generator. These create far too many pages and are "obvious". If you're going to even attempt this kind of thing you need to be very clever and very discrete. A program can't make those decisions, only human judgement.

You'd be surprised to know that web search spiders are not people, and follow algorithms to rate pages and detect doorways. You can use the algorithms backwards to make pages that will not only be not detected by the spiders as doorways, but also liked.

It's all math =)

No, really? You can use the algorithms backwards to make pages that will not only be not detected by the spiders as doorways, but also liked.Post us a link to your site after you're done with some of the examples. I'd love to see a script that can do it well. I wait eagerly...

Don't have much experience with doorway pages, but from what I've read, I'd stay away from that technique.

Here's a link to a site that was generated.
(you need to turn off java script execution within your browser not to get redirected)

<< Link Snipped >>

SITE IS NWS NWS NWS NWS NWS!

p.s (in my defense) this site was not made by me, i just use this as an example, i don't have any porn sites... yet :D

p.s. even IF the doorway is banned, you create another one, and another if need be.

As long as you don't store the doorways on the same domain and webhost as your actual site, you're pretty safe.

I've no idea what NWS is but I'll take the porn warning and not visit.

If you're still interested in doorways try reading this

http://www.socialpatterns.com/search-engine-marketing/11-ways-to-improve-landing-pages/

but from the skim I did you'll find that each page is created, not generated and each page requires thought, planning and effort. Why create spam when you can create pages humans find useful?

You never want to try and TRICK search engines.. in the long run it will not work.. but in fact give them EXACTLY what they need..

google for Professor pagecraft...

It does exactly what your looking for on a content level.. not doorway pages...

Kirill, I cleaned your post for two reasons,

1. It was not safe for work and we do not allow any porn links even if you badge it to be NWS.

2. You linked to a site which was following unethical SEO practices. This can potentially panelize our site.

Please do not post such links again. We do not appreciate it.

Not to mention that this forum does not allow any site-specific talk or URLs to be posted, to keep this an informative, spam-free place. :)
