This graph is representative of companies with over 250 employees. With smaller companies, it is usually a one person role. In other companies I have seen, it is an integrated approach in a small operation. What do you think of the graph?

I was at an event a few weeks back where the panel discussed their own social media efforts and 4 out of the 5 were operating under the 'distributed' model. The one that wasn't was using the centralized and that company was a well-established, international corporation which I would have expected to have followed that path.

I think the graph is probably spot on but I would imagine that in a few years it will be a more even split between the distributed and cross-functional approaches with only the really older companies sticking with centralized.
