I am not sure what category this belongs in but here it goes. My PC shuts off on it's own. I thought perhaps it was getting too hot so i took the sides off and put a portable fan in front of it. I am in Texas so sometimes it helps and sometimes it does not. My other concern is: Saturday I turned on my pc and it did a chk disk.

It deleted many files. Should I reload windows to repair deleted files? I have not been prompted to do so but I am concerned. I appears so far anyway, the only files missing appear to be emails. Thanks so much for the assistance. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Joe, My son just showed up and he took the cmos battery off the old motherboard, the one that fried and tried it. The same thing happened. Think it could still be cmos battery?

Hello Friends, Yesterday I typed a post indicating I purchased new memory and an audio card. Well this morning I discovered the motherboard was fried... . So today I purchased a new mother board. Thank you so much for those who offered suggestions yesterday. Now, I hit the power button and it boots up to tell me to hit f1 to set up cmos and then it shuts down. . I am open to suggestions. Once again thanks in advance.

My pc was working fine. Today I purchased two items. 1. more memory went from 512 to 1gig. The motherboard supports it. I installed the memory and we're still good. The other item purchased was an audio card. My son installed that for me. Now here's the problem. My pc will not start back up. I am lost! When the power button is turned on the light comes on a fan comes on...and that is all. It's not reading the memory and the monitor will not come on. Is it possible when my son installed the card a cable was knocked loose? I have tried to check all the connections. I am running xp pro. Any and all help welcome. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Paddy, I think I have tried everything. I have taken the disc out. Then when it reboots it says no operating system. maybe if i move the jumpers on the hard drive..

I installed a new hard drive and am now trying to install xp. I goes through the motions until it reboots. Then it starts all over again at the beginning. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? Thank you

I just purchased a Seagate 200gb hard drive. I am trying to install windows xp. I am receiving the following error message: kernel_data_inpage-error. It goes on to read: stop: 0x0000007A (0xe124f3f4,0xc000000e, 0xbf8ed7dd, 0x0c01d860 win32k.sys- address bf8ed7dd base at bf8000000, date stamp 3b7de698.

Does anyone know what this means? Please HELP :?:
THANK YOU
