Sarah Palin Hacked Off
Security stories abound on the Internet, and as we enter a new month an old one has resurfaced. There are legal questions over the Sarah Palin hacking event last year. Graham Cluley has blogged about it.
For me he's buried the main point right at the end of the story. I don't want to seem anti-Graham or anything, he knows his stuff, but to me it's much more interesting that the press - and I speak as a journalist - is still dropping howlers like printing someone's date of birth and full name. In an item about security and identity theft.
There really, really needs to be some education about this. I'd love to see journalists trained in ID protection as well as all the other bits of law we have to learn - you're actually much more likely to expose someone to ID fraud risk by accident than libeling someone - which you're almost certainly only going to do deliberately, so you already know it's wrong.
Who's going to make the first move I don't know - but something's got to give.
