Welcome to the January DaniWeb Digestkeeping the community informed... Here's wishing each and every member of DaniWeb a happy and prosperous new year. Without your passion and participation, DaniWeb would not be the thriving IT community that it is today and for that I thank you. Looking back over 2006, DaniWeb has continued to grow and is now fast approaching 138,000 members. With growth comes change, and that means Dani has been working hard behind the scenes to improve the community experience. Recent tweaks and additions include:
There have also been changes in the moderation team, with a number of familiar DaniWeb faces standing down for personal reasons. Many have remained as valued members of the community even though they no longer perform a moderator function, such is the attraction of DaniWeb. I am sure you would all like to join me in thanking the following for all their hard work and passion during their time as part of the DaniWeb moderator team: alc6379 Coconut Monkey Dave Sinkula DMR kc0arf Rashakil Fol Salem tgreer |
Introducing your new Super Moderatora well deserved promotion... It is a new year and we have a new Super Moderator here at DaniWeb. In case you are wondering what one of them actually does, the simple answer is help keep the forums running smoothly. As well as enforcing system-wide policy within forums, the Super Moderator assists the moderator team in doing their job and as such holds a pivotal position within the management hierarchy at DaniWeb. And so I am extremely pleased to announce that the new Super Moderator is none other than stymiee Anyone who has spent any time within the Site Management forums will already know what a force for good stymiee is, as he has helped turn this category around into a resource we can all be proud of. What you might not know is that stymiee is also a web developer for a merchant services provider and partner in a web development company when not online at DaniWeb. A man with a huge amount of online community running experience, I was over the moon when stymiee agreed to step up to the plate and accept the role of DaniWeb Super Moderator. His firm but friendly style is already having an impact upon the forums, and you can be sure that he will serve your best interests as our community continues to grow. |
Welcome backit is as though she was never gone... If you have been a member of the DaniWeb community for a while now, then the chances are you will remember the inimitable Narue. A software engineer by profession, and former DaniWeb moderator who had to step down due to there not being enough hours in the day, her one of a kind style was much missed and her passing mourned by those who appreciated the sheer depth of programming knowledge that she brought to our community. It is with great joy, therefore, I can report that following much highly persuasive pestering from the Queen of DaniWeb herself, the return of the Eternally Confuzzled Narue as moderator of the Software Development forums. |
And finally...check out this new forum One of the many things that differentiates DaniWeb from the many other IT support forums dotted around the Web is the fact that we listen to our members, and respond to their suggestions. So it was when veteran poster joeprogrammer and posting whiz JJ___ requested a game development forum. The debate quickly became heated and intense, all sides of the argument listened to, a poll taken and a challenge issued to find enough interesting and relevant threads on DaniWeb to show the demand was really there. End result: the Games Development forum which is now open for business. If you are involved in the gaming development and programming industry, commercially or just for fun, be sure to pop over and take a look. |
Vista; The future has arrivedby blud Microsoft announced that Vista, Office 2007, and Exchange Server 2007 are now all available to 'Business' users. While most websites were speculating that this wouldn't be released to anyone (except OEM Manufactures) until January. To most it would appear that Microsoft is trying to get a head start on sales to try to boost their profit margin for the end of 2006, Since this will be the first time that Microsoft has released a product with a year in its title, without actually being that year. The Wall Street Journal seems to think otherwise however. One thing that we can be sure of is this won't be the last thing that Microsoft releases in the new few months. It would appear that Microsoft is trying to change the way that people look at them. In the article of the Wall Street Journal, they point out that Microsoft has always been one to take others ideas, and build from them, and collect on other peoples innovation. It seems they would be trying to prove that they are starting to take the lead with innovation. Microsoft has given a chance for businesses to take the leap to vista first. This allows several things to happen when the retail product is launched. First, not many businesses will take to Vista right now because they are already using XP. Businesses see Vista as another cost, and there isn't much of a benefit in spending money to train their employee's, or the cost of implementing it companywide. Since Microsoft released it early, these companies will however, have time for their IT Group to start using and analyzing the new operating system. The more time the IT Department gets to use the product, the smoother implementation will go, which Microsoft will get the credit for in the long run. Second, the companies that do adopt Vista early, will generate interest for the home user market. Since the employees will be using Vista at work, they will get a chance to see the many useful, and extensive security features that vista employs. This generates an interest to purchase the home version when it is released. |
