Discovering DaniWeb in depth
promoting your business
Everyone knows that DaniWeb is the place to visit for help with your programming problems, as well as finding answers to just about any IT-related questions that you might have. We also like to think that we have the friendliest and most knowledgeable IT support community online, that goes pretty much without saying. But there is so much more to DaniWeb than just that. Have you thought about us as your first port of call for helping you with all your Internet Marketing needs?
The DaniWeb Internet Marketing section comprises all the forums you could possibly need to get help with marketing and promotion strategies, growing your online community, understanding online advertising and getting to grips with search engine optimization.
In order to be able to enjoy candid discussions about business practices and strategy, we do ask that you keep the specifics out of the discussion so that members can feel more comfortable without the fear that their competitors, potential clients, or website visitors will know who they are. To keep everything anonymous and encourage open, unbiased and incentive-free discussion, please do not refer to your site by name nor link to it anywhere within the Internet Marketing category.
So why not visit the Promotion and Marketing Plans forum for discussions related to various Internet marketing techniques and tips of the trade to promote and enrich your website; the Growing an Online Community forum for discussions related to social networking, community building and issues facing forum and chat administrators and moderators; the Advertising Sales Strategies forum where online publishers can engage in discussions related to selling ad space and using affiliate programs, site representation firms, ad networks, and working with advertising agencies; the Pay-Per-Click Advertising forum for discussions related to both buying and selling within PPC ad networks such as Google AdWords and Google AdSense and of course the Search Engine Optimization forum to discuss organic search engine strategies, which includes both off-page and on-page SEO.
And don't forget to visit our Internet Marketing Blogs where you can discover the perils of broadband advertising, why Twitter marketing campaigns can be dangerous things, and how many adverts YouTube serves up in a single month.

DaniWeb staff announcements
Ch-ch-ch-changes
We are sad to report that one of our most knowledgeable and popular moderators, Ancient Dragon, has had to resign from his position for health reasons. He says that "it was a pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with all of you DaniWeb members, the moderator team and administrators. I will continue to drop by now and then to see how things are going, but will not be as visible as I have been in the past." We say, Melvin it has been a privilege working with you and we wish you all the best for the future.
We are, however, pleased to announce that ~s.o.s~ has been promoted to the role of DaniWeb Super Moderator following the departure of Narue last month and now heads up the DaniWeb moderator team.
Another newcomer to the DaniWeb management ranks is Kathy Kottenbach, who joins us our new Director of Sales and Marketing. Kathy comes with some ten years prior experience as a sales executive for CNET and before that a number of years at Ziff-Davis working on PC Magazine and MacWeek. If you are interested in talking about advertising opportunities with DaniWeb, including sponsoring the newsletter, then Kathy would be pleased to hear from you. Request a DaniWeb media kit for more details or drop Kathy an email: kathy@daniwebmail.com

Member of the Month
profiling members of the DaniWeb community
Please welcome our newest member of the DaniWeb hall of fame, the aptly named javaAddict who has been a DaniWeb member for 18 months now and earned himself Veteran Poster status with over 1000 helpful postings. Being part of no less than 169 solved threads, javaAddict has racked up a reputation altering power of 7 and gained 391 reputation points so far as well as referring 9 new members to the community. Unsurprisingly, you will find him most often hanging around the Java forum.
Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
I was born in Athens, Greece and I still live next to the neighbor I grew up with.
How old are you?
I am 29 years old, born just a few days before Xmas.
What is your current occupation, ever done anything unusual in the past?
I am still at my first job where I work as programmer writing web applications using mainly Servlets and JSP. I don't know if this count as unusual but you might be interested to know that I assist my fencing coach, teaching the basics of fencing to the young "padawans". Also I have a licence as a referee in fencing.
What first brought you to DaniWeb?
I was randomly searching the net for Java projects to do in order to kill time and Yahoo came up with a link to someone asking a question in DaniWeb. So I decided to answer it and that was it.
What makes you stay here?
I had to learn Java on my own with just basic programming knowledge, there were many things that the book didn't quite explain and I was doing them the wrong way. I figured that DaniWeb is a good chance to help others learn how to program the right way by telling them the things I wanted someone else to tell me when I was first learning.
What are your interests outside of IT and outside of DaniWeb?
I play Magic The Gathering and I intend to participate at the Paris Grand Prix this November. I hope to play with the world champion so I can get his autograph! Also I am a huge fan of Ferrari and Schumacher and watched live 3 Formula 1 Grand Prix. San Marino 2003, Budapest 2004, Imola 2008. I also watch a lot of Japanese Anime. I have watched in total around 95 with the oldest being the "Astroboy" series back at the 70s-80s. My favorites are of course: Robotech the Macross Saga, Ghost In the Shell and Neon Genesis Evangellion.
Name the best thing about DaniWeb, and one thing you would change if it were in your power?
I don't usually answer these questions in surveys because I can't think of anything to say. But If there is something I like is that there are many great professionals posting here that we can learn a lot from them.
Any pearls of wisdom to share with DaniWeb members?
There are 3 ways to do things: The right way, the wrong way, and The Object Oriented way!
