SelArom 9 Junior Poster in Training

hi, I'm wanting to undertake a big project, and I want a way to keep track of my progress. I learned in my software engineering class about requirements elicitation and analysis and I really like that approach, but I'm wondering if there is a formal mechanism (like software or a template) for keeping track of the requirements and overview of the project.

Should I just use a word/text file to make a log or is there something more organized that I can use? I plan to do a lot of the diagrams (use case, sequence, state chart, etc) in Visio 2003, but I'm not sure what to use to get started in listing the overall objectives. This is my biggest writer's block snag, because I dont' know how to organize everything I want the project to do!

does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get started and stay organized? thanks a bunch!
