Append a text file to an excel file and search for a string into it

Hi all

I am newbie to VB.I want to append text file data to an already existing excel file.
Following is the Text file::

BARCODE|TITLE|PRICE|CUSTOMER_FIRST_NAME|CUSTOMER_LAST_NAME|CITY|STATE|ZIP|PURCHASE DATE
111111868167|Dead North Friday Night OCT 10th |18.5|Amber|Follensbee|Windsor|VT|05089|08/07/08 11:30am
111111868177|Dead North Friday Night OCT 10th |18.5|Amber|Follensbee|Windsor|VT|05089|08/07/08 11:30am
111111868187|Dead North Friday Night OCT 10th |18.5|Amber|Follensbee|Windsor|VT|05089|08/07/08 11:30am

After appending the file i need to search for a string(barcode) in the file and if found i need to replace it with string which would be datestamp_barcode.

after search i have to write result into another excel file that is file found,datestamp,no. of occurrence of barcode etc.

I know this is too much but any help will be appericiated.
