when i run df -h, it shows used 15 GB of total 20 GB

when I run ncdu program, to find what takes, I do sudo ncdu in my root directory. And I see sorted by size directories:

4.7GB home
4.5GB var
1.3 GB usr

and later is 19 MB lib and so on

so adding up - the space is 4.7+4.5+1.3 = 10.5. OK plus those small directoreis lets roudn to 11 GB used. So where are my 4 GB then?

It also give that error (I am not sure what the precise error code is as I am posting this from a different computer, but it is basicly that there isnt a package named nasm)

The file permissions ('rwx') are all in my name for the drive and folders, but still it says that I don't have permissions. I've tried copying as root but write access is still denied.

ls -la confirms that the files are in my name and my group, but when I look at the properties in Nautilus it doesn't show read / write permissions.

I'm trying to get an accurate count of the pdf downloads from our website, both from clicks within the site and also from within emails and linkedin posts. However, it's obvious that google analytics isn't able to count direct downloads, so we've been looking at the webalizer stats for what we were hoping might be a more accurate count. The figures are vastly higher though: 20 downloads according to ga, and 40,000 according to webalizer.

So, what I'm wondering is how accurate are the webalizer stats for pdf downloads? I know overall web visit counts are bloated, but I always assumed for individual files it was relatively accurate.

I am sharing my webserver with a few people (it's my server) and I am trying to create some sort of an admin panel for them. It has to be able to change Apache VirtualHosts and reload Apache. Now I can make the config-changing PHP code, but there are 2 Apache-related problems.

• I want only my script / all scripts from my VirtualHost to be able to write to a specific directory. So I don't want other people to be able to write a simple PHP script to bypass my config script screw around with Apache config/
• I want only my script / all scripts from my VirtualHost to be able to reload Apache (through a shell command). Again, I don't want other scripts to be able to do this.

I know of suPHP, but compiling that is not working, it's just very hard.

Running Apache 2.2 with PHP 5.3 on Debian Squeeze Linux.

I am looking for an algorithm/program that separates all of the data chunk i,e how many chunks are there. Moreover, that program will also be giving information of the size of the chunks and which are the elements. I am explained my problem by this following example

suppose I have three chunk of data points and one isolated point. each chunk of data are related by some rule.

chunk1: 1,2,8,9,11,12; connectivity: 1-2, 2-12,2-11,8-9,8-11
chunk2: 4,7,10; connectivity: 4-7,7-10,4-10
chunk3: 5,6; connectivity 5-6
chunk4: 3

Therefore, the total no of data points in this system are 12 and the dimension of connectivity matrix will be 12X12. I have set 1 if the two elements are connected in this matrix and the rest of the elements are 0. Moreover, the diagonal elements of this matrix was st to 0 because connection within the same element is meaningless. Therefore, the matrix, h(i,j), looks like

Now, my question is, how do I find the the number of chunks and which elements constitute those chunks for a given matrix.

I have thought by this way:
1. go along first row, if there is any 1 then find out that column (j) and set that element and its conjugate as 0 i,e h(i,j)=h(j,i)=0 as that matrix is always symmetric. the element i is the first element of the first cluster.
2. In the next step go to the jth row and repeat the same procedure.
3. when there is no 1 along the row then the first cluster has been sorted out. repeat the same thing for 2nd ..3rd ...nth cluster until the all elements of that matrix is 0
4) when all elements of that matrix is 0 then computation is finished. The rest of the elements will be isolated elements.

However, I am facing difficulty to implement this algorithm using fortran. This is because if a row contains more than one 1 (i,e a element is connected simultaniously with more than one element) then how do I go to those rows simulataniously.

Can anyone help me in this regard? any logic or any idea or any program will be helpful for me.

I'm using crontab on Ubuntu 10.04 and I have had 7 tasks running smoothly for about 6 months. I've now created a new script but for some frustrating reason it will be execute. It's a small task that needs to run every two minutes. The issue doesn't reside with the code as if I execute the script manually it works perfectly. The script is written in PHP and I'm running Apache2.

This works fine:
*/5 * * * * php -q /var/tasks/PEQ.php

This does not:
*/2 * * * * php -q /var/tasks/SSC.php

There are no errors being reported by the script, which has error reporting on, and there are no errors being logged by crontab.

Any ideas?

Does virt-manager have another firewall for virtual machines, is there a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

I have some open source C# code, whose GUI identifies the available physical or virtual COM ports and allows selection of any available COM port for serial port communications. I can use the .ini file to use the selected COM port in the Win32 .dll. I can then call the Win 32 .dll into the rewritten C# code using a p/invoke call and use MonoDevelop on Ubuntu Linux to compile and link my code to create an executable which runs on Linux and Mac OSX.

Would the GUI element allowing the identification and selection of physical or virtual COM ports and the Win32.dll GUI element still work as on Windows?

One more thing, I'd like to add my Windows 7 that's on another HD it grub. At this point I'M not asking how to do that right now I just need to know how to find out what HD and partitoin the grub is on the is booting my system now. I have a feeling that it's not the grub that's on my Mint Linux system that I normally use.

Please, before anyone jumps in with "impossible, there's no viruses for linux, you are stupid" read the post.

I got a friend's computer to fix, Gateway NV53. Fast forward, put a new HDD but it won't accept any windows installation disk. Vista, XP, 7, nothing. It just ignores them everytime and ends telling me no OS was detected.

I then installed Linux Mint 9 on the computer quiet succesfully. It aknowledged the DVD upon boot right away from the first time I put it in. The owner wants windows back in it, but every time I insert a windows disk it completely passes ignored.

I disconnected the CMOS battery for quite a while, twice, and the problem won't go away.

Reading more lead me to believe a virus is logged in the motherboard and it only attacks windows.

What can I do to clean the mobo from linux?

I downloaded the BIOS from gateway but I can't make it run now that the computer runs with linux.

I was experimenting with firewall configuration. As I understand there are iptables - there is saved configuration. But as additional tool - ufw can be installed for simpler configuration. I installed it and experimented. Btw I checked

sudo iptables --list

and there was some lines like

but I did not touch them. Maybe ufw changes them. Not sure.

I played around with uwf - adding some rules, removing them. ANd then I disabled uwf. WHen I done this - the old configuration is still filtering which was in iptables, right?

maybe someone can write most important things what web developer should know about linux? When I am reading linux tutorials, I often find out that I don't need this what I read. At least never needed. So its not fun to read about things which you don't need.

What I have tried/read so far is:

how to delete older than X days logs
how to restart apache
how to filter processes running
currently trying out compiling a program (but as I read in Ubuntu tutorial - this is rarely needed in reality, becauseo on Ubuntu most of stuff is already compiled. If not compiled, the progrma might be not stable yet or something like that.)
