serial port programming loopback mode

i have written a program to transfer character from one comp to another using serial port .in order to test the program i want to use loopback control as i have only one computer. i have read how to connect rs232 in loopback mode but my problem is that if we have to connect pin 2 and 3 or 4 and 1 as in loopback mode ....how to connect it (rather short it).do i have to short the male DB9 with wires or is there anyother method.
pls do help fast.

Attach a female DB9 connector onto your male to female RS-232 cable.
Get the solder type, not PCB type. Then solder wires to it and tie pin 2 and pin 3 together.

As long pins 2 and 3 are tied together, it will work.
