Help needed creating feet and inches keypad

Expand Post »
I am an architect working on macs. I have an idea i would like to create. I would like the ability to right click my mouse when in a text field, and have an "architects custom keypad" show up at my cursor, so i can easily enter feet and inches information into the text box. Current QWERTY keyboards are not customized to make it easy to enter feet and inches. I am not a programmer, but would like to become one in this case. Can someone offer me advise on a way to get this done. I have started to look into "RealBasic". Any suggestions? It would be nice to eventually have this in a windows version as well, but i am starting with the mac os X version. I would love to have a physical keypad, but this seems like a bigger initial investment. My goal is to offer this gem, as shareware.

Thanks
