Simulation of Main memory compression

hello,

good day..
i would like to do a simple simulation ( discrete event simulation ) based on this article ( link below ) using C or C++ .
as this is the first time i'm dealing with simulation, i dont know where should i start and what parameters/ algorithm i need to take into account.

i hope to receive some feedback ..
