How to get Maya to replace a directory with an environment variable?

Expand Post »
Hi,

I'm trying to work out how to get Maya to save out my environment variable as opposed to the full directory. I have changed my maya.env file so it has no trouble reading the environment variable and then writing out the environment variable if it was already written out in the maya ascii file.

The thing is when I'm in Maya and I pull in another jpeg, or tif file it automatically writes the whole directory out and not the environment variable.

How can I get Maya to aggressively replace my directory and write out the environment variable every time?

Thanks,
