What is a bot

Hi, I'm new to DaniWeb. I have question regarding bots, specifically internet bots.

How are they made and how do they perform automated tasks? Are they programs that repeatedly perform clicks at certain locations? Or are they programs that use internet functions such as cURL?

Some bots inject clients into the actuall game to read realtime information, then use the cursor to perform tasks necessary. Others inject code into the game to change variables or the way thegame runs
