Capturing CD audio

Expand Post »
For a univeristy project I am creating a basic cd player that will generate 3D objects and animate them.

The idea is to bsae the objects on the music playing.

I've written a simple CD player using MCI calls etc, and have created a graphics framework using directx to render the scene.

The problem I have is trying to capture CD audio while it plays the track, I've searched and searched for information of what function calls I need to use etc with no luck. I need to be able to use the volume of the track, the speed, etc to convert those to x,y,z values for the graphics, and assign colours from the music.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
