Focussing last APP

Hello folks and greetings,
I have been working on a program that inputs foreign accents into MSword. I have been trying to extend this so that it will input into the last app, be it publisher powerpoint excel , notepad etc. What I am looking for, then, is help with the code that would input the letter into the last application used and then leave the focus in that app. Any help would be appreciated as I have been trying to figure this out for quite a long time!.
