The best way to understand Linux/Unix is the shell and shell programming. If you have a solid understanding of how these features work...Then you have a solid understanding of Linux/Unix.

Get the current objectives for some Linux certification like CompTiA Linux+ or Linux Professional Institute Certification and start mastering the objectives one by one; wherever you find the information is irrelevant.
