Pls Help Me in Crystal Report 7

Hello everyone, I just need help to finish my project. I'm having trouble with the crystal report. I need to code Date for searching purpose in Visual Basic. I only know in String and when It comes to Date there's no record.

Pls help me.. This is my sample done in string:

{Receipt.Client} = if{?param1} = '' then {Receipt.Client} else {?param1}

how about in date. when I tried on date It prompt dat there's need of date.
