Taking inputs 4m autocad drawings,possible?

Let, i have a rectangle drawn in autocad. Now i want my application to open the file on my command & read the length & width of the rec. Dimensions are given in the autocad drawing by 'dimension' command. How is it possible? Does vb6 work with autocad drawings? Let me know,please...
