What type of XML does mapping service use?

Expand Post »
Hello everyone,

I am trying to understand how a journey planner shows a map of user's journey. My idea is the journey planner will use the Google maps API or some similar service to plot the journey. There must be some type of XML data (JSON in case of google?) transfer.

So my question is does anyone know what type of data might be exchanged between the web services of a company and the map providing company? Is there any standard XML schema for that?

I hope the question didn't got too confusing.

Thank you.
