alc6379, I was starting to learn python. I am working my way towards
LPI
1, and was looking through 1 & 2. I found in topic 213, you have to be able to write simple perl scripts and install Perl modules from CPAN. So now I will have to start learning perl and come back later to python.

Ken, Just a small nit to pick. You mention the 'government paid for' a few times in your article. I was laid off in a plant closing and took classes paid for through unemployment. The money for this comes from the unemployment insurance that is taken out of our paychecks every day we work and earn. So it might be better to think of the …

Sean, I didn't know about the insurance thing. It seems he had some grant or something. It was a long time ago so my memory of it has faded. I'm glad you got retrained and are successful--congrats. My anger wasn't really directed at him so much as it was the certification thing. People are free to change careers but it just seemed unfair to me …

Ken, I couldn't agree more. I'm a contractor inside the DOD and worked for many years for the Navy as a civilian. My current assignment wants us to have certs, but usually vendor-neutral (I'm taking the CompTIA Security+ exam this Monday, because I have to). But other than one Microsoft cert from a few years ago, I've been doing this work for …

Well I think the vendor neutral certifications (certs) like A+ and Network+ do give you a solid grounding in understanding the basic principles. Experience is always preferable to certs no doubt. The only problem is getting your foot in the door to get a junior position, to get experience. Without any proof you have the basics down, you’re screwed,…

Jim,your MBA-M program is several years out of date, which is why it didn't find anything, because it can't, it's too old and that database does not contain the proper files to look for today's infections. You need to update that and run it again. Currect version number is 1.51.1200 and current database, as I write this, is 6963. …

Ok, wowsers, I thought I was getting constant updates from MBAM, can you point out where that is done, so I can set it up? The new software found 6 more issues. I will paste the MBAM info here, and then the attach.txt file after it. Thanks for the help. I will check to see if I am running in normal mode. I figured I might as well send this info out…

Ok, I booted up in normal mode, and all my .exe files are disassociated. I again looked at the /command folder in the registry, and it looks normal. I am not sure how to fix this part. I think all the viruses are gone though. Thanks for noticing how out of date my MBAM was, I really need to make sure that is self updating. Please let me know how to…

Thanks, but it did not help. I am actually working on regular mode, but here are the problems: .exe files are not working, I get the "what do you want to use to open this file..."
