[mailing-list] Forum Topics

Having subscribed to the mailing list, I got barraged with hundreds (it seemed like) emails every day. Is there any way to cut down on these? It took me over half an hour to delete them all! My mail provider warned me that my account was "dangerously" full. ;)

I'm a novice to PHP and MySQL, and would like to create a mailing list on my site, which can send HTML documents (basically styled to match the actual website). Can someone point me towards a good tutorial, or show me how to do so?
