If you don't already have one, I'd recommend picking up the Wacom Bamboo Fun package. Not only is it a good drawing tablet for beginners, but it also comes with Corel Painter Essentials

I've made some noise about it, but mostly got a bunch of blank stares from my higher-ups. I did manage to find them on the site (300GB for $999), but like most things Apple, you might be able to do...
