Bob,you sure like that xp repair install ,i think its good ,but maybe overkill for a lot of problems , i would try chkdsk /f, and or a sfc /scannow before a repair install . |

if by chance dell gave you a winxp cd ,you can boot to it and do a "R" for repair and at the prompt type in , chkdsk /f
