scanf returning EINTR error

ProbleM:
i am programming in language c on linux platform .After including one particular function my scanf start returning value -1 and error no is 4(EINTR) . And after first time taking input from user it runs correctly and then it starts taking a default value which u have entered on first in put and runs a infinite loop.

Note:
I cant give u the code bcoz i m a trainee with a company in India and can't disclose company code.

Please tell me where is the problem and possible solutions?

Create a suppression script

Hello. I have 2 files which, and i want to supress one file against another. for example.

File 1 - suplist.txt
hello123
chris635
mike822

I then have another file

File2 - checklist.txt
stephen929
mike822
hiop191

I can see that mike 822 appears in the suppression list so i do not want this name in my file.

This is what i have so far, it works, but takes hours to run against a suppression with 1,000,000 records in

while read NAME

do

    grep $NAME suplist.txt > file

    wc=`wc -l < file`

    if [ $WC -eq 0 ]

    then

        echo "Name is not in list...so output"

        echo "$NAME" >> good.list

    fi





done < checklist.txt

Server with Fedora 9

I am a noob in the area of servers and web hosting. I am currently running Fedora 9 on my secondary laptop and wish to make it into a server machine.
I pretty much want to run:
1. Support AJAX/Dreamweaver for Web page design
2. Mailman mailing system or similar, to create mailing lists
3. Wikimedia support with encrypted access (personal registered password)
4. Blogs with encrypted and public interaction
5. Big space for audiovisual archive and broadcast

I will be getting a second laptop to run as a storage server which directly connects with the primary server laptop.
I have a domain name listed along with 2 IP address's.

My question is, is it possible to run all of this from home? And with limited server/web hosting skills, will I be able to administer all of this without having to go through a 3rd party? (Such as godaddy).

*If this is in the wrong forum or if this was asked by another member, I'm sorry. This is my first day in daniweb and am in desperate need for support. Thank you.

I have just installed PCLinuxOS (698 MB) in one of my hardware partition.

My Problem is that I am unable to connect to the internet. And I am not able to figure out the reason. So I have decided to post some screen shots, which may explain my problem better. Please help.

different types of kernel

I am new to kernel recompilation and building kernels..

Can anyone explain difference between the kernel types smp, non-smp, huge, generic.. How can we identify the type of kernel.. How they are categorize? I am using below kernels and recompiled and loading externel modules also.. but it wasnt successful..

kernel-source-2.6.24.5_smp-noarch-2
kernel-modules-2.6.24.5
kernel-headers-2.6.24.5_smp-x86

Here the source kernel and module kernel are type of smp ? so should i use module kernel with smp type?

Please explain me.. I am confusing.. I cant find where i did mistake?

Running home desktop - Intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz with 250gb hd and 2.0 mb ram.

Multibooting XP, Mepis, Kubuntu, and Mint. Installed a 40 gb scavenged HD (drive 2) to install Mepis on. Planned to copy some files from Mepis on drive 1. Booted from the Mepis live cd and couldn't repartition HD2 to my satisfaction from gparted. Re-booting into Acronis Disk Director and was sucessful in re-partitoning HD2 with intentions of installing Mepis 7.0. Decided to boot into Mepis on HD1 and print out the menu.lst file. That is when I got the message.."Kernel panic - not syncing. No init. Try passing init= option to kernel."

HD2 is listed as ATA ST34810A. It should be good since I just removed it from another computer and it was working when I removed it.

I can boot into Kubuntu, Mint, and XP. Only get the kernel panic when I click on the Mepis grub entry. It is the first entry in the menu.lst file.

Booted the Mepis LiveCD and reinstalled GRUB to the MBR of sda (hd1) pointing to the partition that holds Mepis on that disk. Still no change.

Installed Mepis on HD2, wrote grub to MBR on hd2, and edited the menu.lst because for some reason Linux thinks HD1 is sdb instead of sda like it was before. I can boot into Kubuntu, Mint, XP on HD1 and Mepis on HD2 but not Mepis on HD1.

I then re-installed mepis on hd1 and let Grub be installed to the MBR of hd1. I didn't reformat my /home directory because I wanted to keep some of the documents I had saved. Then I went back and edited Mepis menu.lst on HD1. I got all the sdas and sdbs straightened out and still could not boot into Mepis on HD1. I did some more googling and found something that made me look at the fstab file. Sure enough there was a problem there with sda and sdb being reversed from what they should have been. Edited that and then when I tried to boot into Mepis on HD1 I get the following:

I have done some googling for this error but mostly I find stuff that is way over my head it seems. Does anyone know of a solution that might understandable to someone that is not knowledgeable in networking or servers?

Sorry for the extended length. It seems that I am in way over my head. Mepis is my favorite distro and would really like to get it booting again.

scripts in a cron tab

Hi,

I'm new to the forum & new to ,linux scripting so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have a crontab that calls 2 scripts like :

47 14 * * * /myFirstScript.sh

48 14 * * * /mySecondScript.sh

they don't do anything useful yet - just write to files; but is there a way of if the first script fails to not run the second script? is there a flag or anything like that I can use?

Cannot reset root password

Hey,

I have been trying to reset the root password for a unix system. The shadow file has full rw-rw-rw permissions, however when I force write the save (in vi editor) it says it cannot do it because its a "Read-only filesystem". Is there another way around this?

setuid problem

Hi,

I have one application with 'normal' user privileges. This application runs another one which has 4755 permissions. Does this mean that the second application will run as root???
I believe not... The second application tries to setuid(0) and fails.
How to tackle this problem so I can run second application with root privileges from first no-root application???

Service Processor

I am receiving messages from HP-UX Server
"The operating system is unable to communicate with the service processor.

The support bus which connects the system processors, the service processor and the Power Monitor or Platform Monitor may have become hung ". How to check the service processor firmware revision?
