iPod Linux

OK, before I start, I am a complete tech idiot. I mean, I can do basic stuff, but nothing fancy. I'm working on installing Linux to my 2 GB 2nd gen iPod nano, but with no luck. IT all goes well until I get this error message from installer "An error occurred while installing linux: error reading firmware version from iPod data file." Any tips? BTW, I'm using a Mac running OS X.

I've read that downgrading to a more compatible firmware on your ipod might do the trick, but YMMV.

Back up anything important before trying it.

btw i copy/pasted the error in quotes to google and got an extended ammount of responses. did you try googling?

I just read that the firmware is encrypted better, and the hackers aren't even trying. Is it possible to downgrade firmware?
