So this is a general discussion. I basically want to know what your experience has been like when converting a VS 2005 project to a VS 2013 project, and from .Net2 to .Net 4.5.

What have you done to overcome the issues? Are there ways and means to do the above mentioned safely without hassle? How to reduce code changes? What errors you have encountered?

I will soon be handed a project that was built in VS 2005 and the target framework is .Net 2.0. I guess I am preparing myself for the worst.

Wow, I had plenty of issues moving a 2005 project to 2008. I don't even want to think about what would need to be done to go from 2005 to 2013.
I'm not sure about this, haven't looked into or done it myself, but maybe the piggy back approach might work - convert 2008 if you can then to 2010 or 2012.
