Creating a system to generate website statistics using CF?

I am very new to coldfusion (& web server scripting in general) and have been asked to create a system that shows the websites statistics.

please some help on how i would go about doing this, or maybe a link to a guide?

I'd love to find something like this that is open source and is comprehensive. The only thing that I've come across so far is Site Peak on riaforge.
