MMS gateway necessary?

I'm adding a feature to my site, similar to flickr, that will allow my members to post photos sent from their cellphone.

Downloading and sorting out the photos to various member folders is quite easy. Do I really need an MMS gateway or just a pop3 or IMAP4 server?
