relational db storage and search

hello everyone
i'm new to this site and i'd like help in any form with a project i'm about to undertake. i would like to store .doc files in a database and retrieve them with the aid of a search string to be input by varying users (basically a search on a relational database) any form of help would be appreciated.

ps: i've used mysql for with java and php (only for report generation though) but i need java related help. on the best way to retrieve results from my database based on random search queries.

you should avoid storing the .doc files in the database to minimize the size of the DB. You should however store the url to the file you wish to associate with that row.
