I am new to MySQL and navicat as well. I have been creating a database in Access and now adding records. I added about 50 records earlier and then saved them to my flashdrive to import the new data in navicat using the import wizard. The reason I have to save to FlashDrive is I dont have Access on the pc at work, and I dont have Navicat on my laptop. Complicated I know. Anyway, the first time I imported, I selected "Copy: Delete all records from destination and repopulate the source..Woked fine. Next time I tried to add more records, it completes and says unsuccessful. Tried many times. Can someone tell me what causes the Unsuccessful error?? Thanks for any help!
here is the log file. Wow it's long! lol. I did notice something it says about duplicate primary keys. I'm very new to MySQL and databases in general, so not sure what all of this means. Thanks for the help!
You are trying to insert records where the id (bulbID and brandID I guess) is already in the database. Since this is a primary key field, it is not allowed to be added again. It should be possible to not import this id field, but then you would probably get duplicate records in your database.
Hmmm ok so is there a solution? I mean from what you said I olny have two choices? Import and deal with the errors, which after about 4 or 5 times importing, all the records seem to get imported, or not import the primary key records and have duplicate records.
There should be an easier way to enter all this data. I know you can import several different file types into databases, but what I have is an html table on a website with thousands of products listed. When I tried to import this table into Access, and I tried using delimiters and others like tabs and breaks, it put all the text into one column. Isn't there a way I can do this?? If anyone would like to look at the table I'm trying to create a DB for, go here and let me know if there's something I can do.
thanks for all the help pritaeas! Now one more question if you dont mind. I've pretty much gotten everything to work, but now I get another error. I have 214 records in my database, but when I pull it up in my webpage, there are 2 missing. When I do an import from Access to Navicat, I get two errors that say 1406 data too long for column 'description' at row 1.
Not sure what this means. I changed the data type in the Description column to memo, because the text type only allows for 255 a few days ago. Still confused as the first row in in the table when I pull it up in my browser. ANy ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Apparantly the description is too long for the database. If I copy/paste it in my editor it reports the length of about 280/290 chars. So you'd best change your mySql table.
Change it in what way? Again, I'm not very familiar with databases, but especially with MySQL. I know the basics of Access, but not sure how to change what you're talking about. I thought that by setting the data type to memo, that would accomodate the long descriptions column.
Nevermind. lol I figured it out! I saw the design table option in navicat and then changed the type to "longtext".. Then ran the import wizard and the last 2 records were added! Thanks so much for all your help!
