javascript cursor placement

Can anyone tell me how to position the mouse cursor at the beginning of some text I have inside a text input (some hint words in italics), instead of at the end of the words?

It's one of those text hints that will disappear once the user begins typing. I've got everything working but the cursor position. Thanks for the help
