I don't think so, usualy you can get a site for £4 a month. Best thing is to instal Tomcat on your pc together with database(MySQL) and practice there

yup, run your own servers. Easiest when learning as you can try different configurations and servers without having to bother with uploading things, remote logins, etc. etc.

Tomcat is nice, but I'd use Firebird instead of mySQL for the database. Smaller, easier to install and use, and more friendly on your RAM and CPU.
That and it's got a far stricter SQL implementation, making it better for learning databases.

Try http://www.myjavaserver.com . You will have to solve its registration puzzle which is a factory method problem. myjavaserver[dot]com provides 5 MB space for hostin jsp, servlet. But for learning it is enough. Am I right ?:)

Myjavaserver's registration have been temporarily disabled, and eatj is shutting down the server 4 times a day to encourage buying its 24/7 monitor service.
I understand it's not so popular as PHP, but there must be a lot of people sick of PHP by now, so I can't imagine that there is not even one really free JSP host around among that much PHP ones.

I m Totally agree with you MyJavaserver's hosting is disabled due to abuse and eatj provides limited time access to its resource. Jsp hosting is not that much than php I have found myjavaserver's hosting very comfortable. They are facing some problem due to abuse and their other services also disbled. Before some days I was not able to upload any file to myjavaserver's hosting but now it works fine. I think some one will take care of it and will provide a platform for the java lover's. I will sure reply u if i find some thing helpful.
