What is the final application?

You mean the final editor to choose??

Well, i say XMLSpy. If you are looking for free version go for XMLSpy Home Edition

XMLSpy is crap. Overly intrusive, way too complex.
You need nothing more than a decent text editor to write XML, or something like Calisto if you insist on an editor that has highlighting and stuff.
