Hi,
I would recommend :
1. Mambo / Joomla
2. ezPublish
3. CMS made simple

in that order. Check out the plugins available for these systems too.

You can check out opensourcecms.com for good reviews on the most popular CMS systems.

regards.

I would recommend Drupal.
I have used Drupal in the past and I prefer it better than all the other CMS.
It is easy to use and customize.

For theimage gallery, I would recommend Gallery.
http://gallery.menalto.com/

You can't beat it.

For your news and events, you could use a blog product like Simple PHP Blog.

If you are going to want to add additional fields or data types, you could look at Xaraya ( http://www.xaraya.com) .

I've built more than a few sites with that ssystem, all of them custom.... but you can use it out of the box... and make moderate tweaks without needing to code (it will add the new cotnent into the pages for you).
