I have a question for professional web designers.
Do I must make my website compatible for smaller devices such as IPhones, or is that a nice "extra" thing to do?
I dont really know how, as I never did before, so before I spend hours on this, I want to know how important it is.

It is always "nice to have", but I think it depends on your userbase. That should be your deciding factor. If you have analytics installed, you can easily check how many views were made from a mobile device.
