Help me???

Hi Azzy77 and welcome to daniweb.
Let's begin with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.
Post back here with that log along with a NEW scan log done by HJT

Download HostXpert
* Unzip HostXpert to your Desktop
* Open up the HostXpert program.
* Make sure that the "Make Hosts Writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
* Click Create Back Up
* Then click on Restore Microsoft's Host Files
* Close the HostXpert program

Download ComboFix
Click on the Save button and then when it asks you where to save it, make sure you save it directly to your Windows Desktop.
Once the download is complete you will see the Combofix on the desktop.

*Close all open Windows including this one.
* Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix.

Doubleclick the combofix icon on the desktop to run the program.

Windows will issue a prompt asking whether you wish to run the program, click Run
You will then see a Disclaimer screen asking you to agree to the disclaimer. Press the number 1 key to accept the disclaimer.

Now just sit back and allow the program to run

Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

When ComboFix has finished running, you will see a screen stating that it is preparing the log report.
This can take a while, so please be patient. If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
Run a new HJT scan and save the log.
Post back here with the combofix log and the new HJT log.

Thank you for your help so far

I got the hostxpert thingy done..

But everytime I try and run combofix it says something to the effect of

"Combofix has detected the presence of rootkit activity and needs to reboot"

and is accompanied by some strange beeps I didn't even know the computer made.
Is that anything to do with running antivirus and firewall software cos I have disabled all the ones I know of however this is my parents computer and I don't know what else they have on here....or is it something else?

I have tried searching this problem but keep getting redirected I can use cached pages but can't follow links of them...

Any advice would be much appreciated this isn't that much fun anymore

Try this; Shut down the computer. DISCONNECT from the internet, completely, actually pull the plug from the computer so it cannot connect or even attempt to connect. Then reboot the computer and try combofix again.
Judy

Tried that same problem

Please download RootKit Revealer from Live.Sysinternals and save it to your desktop.

Start RKR, wait about 10 seconds, click Scan, then leave computer untouched until it completes. An idle machine will minimise the possibility of false positive reports caused by changes to the system during the scan. Background processes may still make intermittent changes, but resulting discrepancies tend to be obvious from their registry or filesystem branch; on a re-scan many may not recur.

* Save the discrepancy list to text file as needed.

Using the File->Save dialog, select Desktop for easy location.
Post back here with that log.

It said it couldn't find desktop because ti could be on this computer or on the network, we don't have a network here, but I saved it on the C: drive here is the log

Thank you for your help

Please print these instructions as they will be needed later when Internet access is not available.

Download SDFix
and save it to your desktop:
Now, double-click on the SDFix icon that should now be residing on your desktop. If a Open File - Security Warning box opens, click on the Run button.
A window will open asking where you would like to install SDFix to.
Do not change anything and press the Install button. This will install the program into the default location of C:\SDFix. At this point, you should not run SDFix, but instead continue to the next step where you will reboot into safe mode.
1. Restart your computer

2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.

3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear

4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Once the computer has booted to Safe Mode, do the following;

Click on the Start button, click on the Run menu option, and type the following into the Open: field:

C:\SDFix\RunThis.bat

Then press the OK button.
The SDFix window will open containing some brief info and a disclaimer on the use of the tool.

If you want to continue, please press the Y key on your keyboard and then press enter. Otherwise, you can press the N key to exit the program.

SDFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections.
This process can take a while, so you may want to do something else and periodically check back on the status of SDFix. As the scanning process continues you will continue to see new messages on the screen.
When the scanning process has finished you will see a new screen stating that you need to restart your computer in order to continue.
At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to restart the computer.
When your computer reboots, you will be presented with a screen stating that SDFix has finished.

At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to continue to your desktop.
When you are back at your Windows desktop, the SDFix log will automatically be opened in notepad.
Save that log and post back here with it.
Judy

When I try and start in safe mode

It starts to list a whole lot of drivers, and gets to one called MUP???

Then stops waits 5 seconds then reboots again?

so long story short I don't appear able to reboot into safe mode?

advice?

Try once more with Combofix If it tries to reboot, please allow it to do so.

I can't access bleepingcomputers... I found a copy of combofix somewhere else do I need to get the version from bleepingcomputers? it just says page can't be accessed?

I tried running the version I had again and it said to reboot so I did,it came back on that wee status bar came up went across and then nothing happened?

First you should UNINSTALL that combofix that you have on there now.
Do it this way.
Click START then RUN
# Now type Combofix /u in the run box and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
Reboot the computer.
Now if it indeed has removed that rootkit, and we really don't know at this point but this seems to have become a common problem with this rootkit, we had another thread going here with the same happenings you are experiencing. When rebooting you might get a message about a missing file, don't worry about that right now. What would be missing would be the combofix.

Once you have uninstalled it then try downloading from HERE
Then try running it.
If you can't download it to your computer do you have another computer where you could access the file, save it and take it to your computer? This will work well also.
If you get it to run post the log, it WILL take awhile to start and finish, just give it time.
If it doesn't run, then Update MBA-M and run it again and let it fix everything found and post that log.
Judy

I like all those program ,when they fail to run!
i use the one in my signature ,after i update it !of course

I can't uninstall combofix the way you described it, appears to try and start running it, is there another safe way to uninstall it....

Trojanhunter says it has a trojan in it, I would like to try and fix this the free way before paying for trojanhunter, but thanks for that advice might end up getting it if this way don't work......

I will try get combofix off my sisters computer this evening

Are you saying that Trojanhunter says there is a trojan in combofix?
I may be wrong but I thought that the trial version of Trojanhunter was supposed to be fully working, meaning it would remove without payment. I have not used this in quite awhile but it used to be that the trial version was a fully working one for 30 days.
Try running MBA-M again. Update it first and fix everything found.

Yes trojan hunter said there was a trojan in my version of combofix....
Trojan hunter said i needed full version to clear it out
I haven't had time to get new combofix...
I ran the malware one again and it fixed a few things
Google doesn't appear to be jumping anymore but I am loath to push solve as we had this period of appeared fixture once before and it just came back and there still appears to be a lot of things on this computer

Trojanhunter says it has a trojan in it, I would like to try and fix this the free way before paying for trojanhunter,

sorry about that ,i was using an older version and i thought the new one worked too,i just install and ran it and you need to buy to fix ,and yes it does see a file in combo fix as a trojan ,

I ram malwarebytes and it found 6 trojans ,all were the setup.exe files in the folders with the drivers for the acer laptop.i was running it on .

Whether you know it or not things ARE being accomplished here.
Couple things you need to do FIRST. Update the MBA-M program. Don't do anything else with it right now.
Shut down the computer after that.
DISCONNECT THE INTERNET CABLE FROM THE COMPUTER this way there will be no possible way the trojan can get access to the internet.

Reboot the computer.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools. Services.
When that y opens you will see items which can be run as auto starts via Services. The list is alphabetical. Scroll through that list and look for the following two items;
LJJWTA - Sysinternals
LiveUpdate - Symantec Corporation
Highlight them one at a time. Double Click. When the box opens first of all Stop the Service. You should see a button towards the bottom which says Stop. Click that button to stop the service. Then in the middle you will see a section which says Start Up Type. Click the little arrow there and change it to DISABLED. CLick Ok and exit out after you have done this to both of those items noted above. Now if the Stop button is greyed out just click the Start Up type button there and choose disabled and ok and then exit.

Shut down and reboot again.
Leave the internet cable DISCONNECTED.

Then run MBA-M again.
Then allow it to FIX or REMOVE everything found.

Reboot the computer and continue to leave the internet cable DISCONNECTED.
For the moment do not worry about that combofix removal.

We will do that later. You need to run HiJackThis again. Do a Full System Scan.
Place Check marks next to the following entries;
PLEASE BE SURE YOU GET THEM ALL. Print this list out if needed to be sure.

starting to look promising once again thanks for all your help it is very much appreciated

Things ARE looking somewhat better but I don't like it that even with removal MBA-M continues to find these entries.
Let's try the UNINSTALL that combofix that you have on there now.
Do it this way.
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the run box and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
Reboot the computer.

Once you have uninstalled it then try downloading from HERE
If you can't get it on your own computer try to download on another and bring it to yours. BUT don't do that if you cannot get it to Uninstall.

Judy

When I try and delete combofix that way it attempts to run combofix and says it finds rootkit thingys and then reboots the computer, so I don't think that is a viable way to delete it

Just try right clicking on the combofix icon and choose Delete.

Then UPDATE MBA-M.
Shut down the computer.
Reboot to Safe Mode and run MBA-M and have it remove everything found.
Reboot to normal mode.
Run HJT again.
Post back with both logs.

Two problems

A/ When I try and update MBA-M now it says

Update failed. Make sure you are connected to the internet and your firewall is set to allow Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to access the internet

trying to connect to securityWonks.net mirror???
I haven't changed anything but what you told me too. And I am on the internet cos i am replying to you.

B/ I can't restart in safe mode when i try

It stalls on Wins...32/Drivers/Mup

I think from memory definatly the last part is right it stops there and then after 10 seconds just starts rebooting again

Do this Azzy77. Use HiJackThis to generate a Startup list.
Go into the Config option when you start HijackThis
then click on the Misc Tools button at the top.
You will then click on the button labeled "Generate StartupList Log"
Once you click that button, the program will automatically open up a notepad filled with the Startup items from your computer. Copy and paste these entries into a message and submit it here

Make sure you are connected to the internet and your firewall is set to allow Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to access the internet

Your firewall that you installed is blocking MBA-M, turn it off and try again.

What firewall I installed I never installed a firewall...

The settings are the same as when I updated MBA-M the other day I didn't change anything...I have added MBA-M to the exceptions on inbuilt windows firewall even though it is turned off?

Still can't update it.

and still can't reboot in safe mode.

And google has gone back to jumping
