Not to be rude at all. I am looking for a forum that I can spend some time in and I feel that daniweb would be cool. I have actually come and gone before and felt then the same way I feel now. This site needs some optimisation and it wouldn't take long to do.

I'm curious why you aren't using something like mod_gzip or mod_deflate. This would cut the load time down to under half of what it is now and would make a huge difference by itself. It gets tiring to have to wait over 5 seconds or more before the navigation menu will open.

Between that and the literally 90 http requests per page load, it is almost a chore to come to daniweb sometimes.

I like the community but I'm probably not the only one weighing the load time and overhead vs the community.

dear sir,

i find your theory interesting, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Disable the ads?

No ads here and the site loads in a decent time, not quite instant but it doesn't have a noticeable delay either :)

The long page loads (including all the http requests) are a result of the ads, I'm afraid.

Which you can, of course, disable by becoming a donating member of the community :) If you find us helpful it is a good way of giving something back while at the same time getting rid of adverts.

I have tried using adblock for Opera but although removing the ads makes some difference it still takes ages for the gray forum menus to respond. My speed is 64kbps and the only thing I can think of is ajax requests. Does daniweb use a lot of ajax requests because it can be annoying at times and that is why I always use the My Favorite Forums menu.

Using ad block software isn't going to be as effective as telling the JavaScript not to load at all. I see you're a sponsor, so try changing your profile settings if you haven't already.

Not a lot of ajax requests on load.

Cool. As soon as I disabled the ads from the daniweb settings instead of using adblock things got a lot faster. Thanks dani.
