Dear IT community,

I am an IT specialist by profession, working and living permanently in United states, (Green card holder). I am proud to be a part of a hearing aid company who is making a difference in a common person's life by giving a gift that most of us take for granted. It's a gift of hearing in the form of a hearing aid for those who have lost their hearings. I am a software developer for this great company.

I am also married to a lovely wife. But due to the American Immigration policy I have been separated from my wife for last 18 months. I could not bring her with me after marriage since current immigration laws prohibits spouses and kids of lawful permanent residents(Green card holders) to bring them right away after marriage. The law do not consider them "immediate relative".

Recently, two weeks ago, a bill was introduced in the senate by Senator Clinton/Menendez to reunite the long separated spouses/kids with their husbands and wives by re-classifying them as "immediate relative", but that bill was killed and did not get enough votes 44-56. The bill needed 60 votes to pass.

It's mind boggling that the senators are also human being and they don't consider such spouses and kids human beings?? I don't know how come their hearts are not softening to accept the fact and reality that this inhumane law is tearing apart families.

I like to ask each and everyone of you a huge favor for which I shall pray for all of you to support in a good cause to unite these families by visiting a non profit org unitefamilies.org or americanfamiliesunited.org to help support in any way possible. It was because of such Orgs, that we were able to introduce a bill in the senate after a fight of last 4 years that was killed by few votes. We have a lobbyist working for us former congressman Bruce Morrison whose efforts are paying off and a media guru Paul Donnelly who is with us from the day first and supporting us. The fight is still on and currently senate is working on the immigration reform. The next step is Congress and there we have a good chance that we might be able to get something from them.

Senate is trying to legalize illegals, but what about Legal residents like me who are being punished by such laws?? We have paid taxes since the day first and are obeying the laws but in return we are not entitled to a basic human right, a right that all of us should have without any quesiton, to be with our families. Let me reinstate for those of you who might not know that Green Card holders are LEGAL RESIDENTS and they should not be mixed with ILLEGAL RESIDENTS.

Please help me and people like me and support us by standing by us or by chipin some donation or just by posting to this message that yes you are with me!

I think our current immigration policy is too lenient.. we need to strengthen it, and allow less immigrants in this country.

the thing could be, making all those people applying for green cards prove they are going to live in america to study or to work with a certificate from a college or something like that, so no one goes through to start from zero, but having a firm start...

Dear Josh,

I would not agree with what you say. Everyone knows that this great country was built by immigrants who came from all over Europe. You are my friend a child of an immigration couple whether your ancestors came a 100 years ago or 200 years ago but we all know that you cannot be a child of a local born native american unless you are??

Majority if not all of the great people who are known to this world have come from other countries to settle here or were born here to an immigrant family unless they are from a native american family. Einstein , was an immigrant. you cannot deny this. Ok if you dont want to go that far, look at recent events. One of the co-founder of Google is an immigrant. founder of Hotmail is an immigrant. what else the list can go on and on..the fact is clear and we don't need to hide it or explain it..it is just crystal clear.

Immigrants are the backbone of this nation, period. so my friend, denying the immigrants to come to our country is hiding from the reality and not fixing the real problem. So I appreciate your reply to my post. But all I wanted was a little hand of support.
Thanks anyway.!

Dear Nichito,

I am not sure what you are trying to say here in regards to my post. If you could further elaborate then I will be able to reply with a better post.

Thanks anyway to checkout my post.

I'm not Josh, but I'm willing to answer this one on my own part anyway. I am actually part Amerind, on my father's side. It's not enough to let me run a casino (bad joke), but it's still there. I think the total is either 3/128 or 3/256...can't recall the exact number of generations back. The rest is, as you submit, a mishmash of various European nationalities.

Italicized for emphasis. Isn't that a tautology?

We're not denying immigrants the option to come into our nation. We're simply asking that they do so along legal channels, as the very European immigrants you yourself mentioned in your first paragraph. How many of them snuck across the border? I would submit that, since we've had any kind of immigration policy, the vast majority of immigrants came over legally, including your examples in your second paragraph. If I am incorrect in my assumptions here, I would ask that you provide evidence of my incorrectness.

The difference is that a vast number of the new immigrants, especially those of hispanic descent, are not coming into the nation by legal channels. Rather than waiting, as others have to, and as others have done for so long, to be cleared by legal means, they simply come across the border and slip into society. As such, unlike the legal immigrants you bring up to support your argument, they are not either citizens or nationalized individuals. They are criminals, pure and simple, as their very method of entrance broke the laws of this nation.

Precisely. I am not against immigration. I am for legal immigration. I am sick and tired of all the illegals crossing the border into our country, and ultimately changing it for the worst. I just believe our borders should be more secure, and immigrants should be carefully checked to ensure none are terrorists. As the statue of liberty says,
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!""

Actually, none of the responses even touch on the nature of the original post.

I am also married to a lovely wife. But due to the American Immigration policy I have been separated from my wife for last 18 months. I could not bring her with me after marriage since current immigration laws prohibits spouses and kids of lawful permanent residents(Green card holders) to bring them right away after marriage. The issue is that spouses and children are not considered immediate relatives. Personally, I can't think of any way in which they would not be considered as such.

I am not supporting an effort to change it necessarily, but I did want to emphasize the distinction. This is a technicality of our current legal immigration rules and has nothing to do with illegal immigration.

So my dear friend I guess we are on the same page. Then which part of my original post did you not understand?

Let me give you some background of our Immigration law regarding Permanent Legal Resident so called (Green Card holders). So then you can understand what I am talking about.

I am a Permanent Legal Resident(Green Card Holder). I came here Legally. All I am asking is to support the greater cause that would unite our families Legally and in my case me with my spouse. We have been forced to live away from each other for more than 18 months right after our marriage, due to this unjust law. Can you imagine living away from your spouse for the very first years of your marriage, those beautiful years in which you are supposed to cherish the moments with your loved ones? I guess Senators did not imagine this that is why they are not doing anything to help us for this cause.

I bet that if any of those senators who voted NO on the bill that was introduced by Senator Clinton two weeks ago, to relief us from such hardship, if they would be forced to live apart from their wives or husbands, then they would feel the pain that we (Legal residents separted from our spouses) are going through each and every single day.

All we (Legal Immigrants), are asking is to change the old and obscure Immigration LAW which do not consider the spouses of Legal Resident an "Immediate Relative", which do not make any sense to any sensible person. No matter you are a citizen or a Legal Resident, your spouse is a spouse(husband or wife and kids).

Other Visa categories such as H1(temporary workers), F1(Student Visa) and other temporary categories(L1, J1 , etc..) like these can bring their spouses right away without any wait. But the Green Card holder, who is a Permanent LEGAL Resident is not allowed to bring his/her spouse and kids right away and they have to wait in excess of 5years or more depending upon which country you are from. The reason is that, they have to wait for visa number availability since Government allocates only 89000 visas per year for the spouses and kids of LEGAL Residents. But on the other hand there is no limit of visas for other temporary visa holders as I mentioned above and for Citizens. They can bring their spouses and kids right away and don't have to wait for any visa number availability. So there is a double standard.

This is a ridiculous law.

So what we (WWW.UNITEFAMILIES.ORG) and (WWW.AMERICANFAMILIESUNITED.COM) are trying to do is to make senate and congress to work on this particular piece of Legislation for LEGAL RESIDENTS and give them a relief.

There is more to that but I hope I have made some sense this time?

Thanks!!

Dear EZZARAL,

Thanks for your response. Atleast someone has understood what I meant to say!!

Thanks.

Let's look at it this way:

As a resident alien, you do not have American citizenship, nor the full rights of a citizen. If your family were to come here and your family were to be blessed with another child born in this country, then that child has American citizenship and may entitle your family to benefits of social programs. This circumvention of legal immigration is a loophole.

I don't consider this to be inhumane, protecting the value of citizenship for citizens. Were you a citizen, would you still like this loophole?

If your spouse means more to you than the opportunities you have here, I believe you are free to return. If your family would like to immigrate, are they prohibited? It may not be easy, but these are your choices to make, and not outright oppression.

The Left in this country seeks to buy votes in this manner, importing an underclass always in need of their assistance. And in part, redistributing wealth from tax-paying workers and their employers to folks that may not even be citizens. In some cases, the Left may even choose to bestow voting rights to further their power and remove choice from citizens.

1. There is no difference b/w a Legal resident and a Citizen, except the right to vote and tell me how many citizens are there who do have the right to vote but do not exercise this properly.?

2. We Legal Residents don' have to depend on our children to be fed by them through any social aids or program, we are highly educated and well paid employees of respectable corporations. We are professional Scientists, Doctors, Engineers who are helping this nation, our nation hand in hand. We can easily support to have a health insurance, a nice car a big house, but we just can't have our family due to this law. So no need to worry about the so called loophole according to you.

3. There is no loophole, instead there is a double standard, like I mentioned in my previous post, that other visa category holders who are here temporary have a luxury to be with there spouses right away and by the way they then become Legal Residents and enjoy their families being with them. But us, why us Legal residents despite of all the good that we provide with our talent are being deprived of from our families and thus inhuamne and biased. There is no compromise of the value of a Citizenship of a Citizen. There are people who are Citizens in this coalition of members(Unitefamilies and AmericanFmiliesUnited) that I mentioned in my previous emails who are standing with us shoulder to shoulder and are supporting us in every way possible.

4. Who says anything about opression? My dear friend, you need to fully understand the subject. Yes you are right that these are our choices that we make, but one should not have to choose between a country where he/she has spent so many years of life earning and providing and a loving family.

5. That's it you got it, it's all about Mr. Benjamin Franklin, the bug bucks, the big green dollars. Right, the money. I guess that's the corporate America , right? Let me add to your knowledge, we are law abiding, tax-paying Legal residents. We contribute to the economy, we payback taxes to Government equally as a Citizen does. So no need to worry about "re-distributing wealth" , since we are already paying taxes regularly each year as you do. No difference there either my friend..

On one side there is Left on other side there is Right and in the middle it's the common public that becomes a puppet in the hands of Left and Right.

Sorry, I really didn't want to argue in this forum, all I wanted a little support.

Thanks for all of your responses.

>Sorry, I really didn't want to argue in this forum
Translation: You expected us to immediately agree with you and join your cause without question.

>all I wanted a little support.
Posting on a technology forum isn't exactly the best way to do this. If we're your only means of support, nobody cares enough to help you. Of course, I'm willing to bet that you've been spamming other forums, which makes you lower than the low.

So let me summarize how things work here. If you want to discuss the current laws and state your opinion of how they need to be changed, fine. If you couldn't care less about discussion and only want to further your own selfish agenda, expect to get bashed for it.

1. There is no difference b/w a Legal resident and a Citizen, except the right to vote and tell me how many citizens are there who do have the right to vote but do not exercise this properly.?

If there is no difference, why are they not the same? And apparently, like it or not, that is their right as citizens to waste it.

2. We Legal Residents don' have to depend on our children to be fed by them through any social aids or program, we are highly educated and well paid employees of respectable corporations.

Good for you. Look at the other side. There are millions to your several.

So no need to worry about the so called loophole according to you.

Of what nation are you a citizen?

3. There is no loophole, instead there is a double standard

I want Britain to pay my bills.

But us, why us Legal residents despite of all the good that we provide with our talent are being deprived of from our families and thus inhuamne and biased.

If your family means that much to you, then go to them.

4. Who says anything about opression? My dear friend, you need to fully understand the subject.

My dear friend, so do you.

5. So no need to worry about "re-distributing wealth"

Except for the millions with your excuse that are.

>Translation: You expected us to immediately agree with you and join your cause without question.
I didn't say that you can't ask questions. You can ask questions and I will try my best to answer them. Then you can decide whether you want to support.

>Posting on a technology forum isn't exactly the best way to do this. If we're your only means of support, nobody cares enough to help you. Of course,

You are right and wrong, this is an IT form, but I am posting in the Social Lounge where people are posting on all sorts of topics. I have respected the sanctity of this forum.

>I'm willing to bet that you've been spamming other forums, which makes you lower than the low.

There are no other forums where I have asked for the support or was doing any spamming. I just happened to come across this forum when I was looking for an answer for my IT related question and found a special lounge where everyone is discussing what he/she believes is important.

No one is more lower than a person who thinks that he is the greatest of all, because all greatness is to God who created this world, who created me and who created you, who gave us two eyes to see, who gave two ears to listen, who gave this very tongue with which you are speaking. You are not the only means of support but can become a supporter because everyone has a good heart.

Everyone is equal in the eyes of God and even no one is with us but God is and God Willing one day I will come back to this Lounge to give you a good news that we acheived what we were fighting for, i.e. fair laws for FAMILY UNITY.

>So let me summarize how things work here. If you want to discuss the current laws and state your opinion of how they need to be changed, fine. If you couldn't care less about discussion and only want to further your own selfish agenda, expect to get bashed for it.

My only reason to discuss this was to provide the reality that there should not be any double standards in Family Unity. I do care that I should discuss it with as many people as possible but in a good and gentle manner.

>If there is no difference, why are they not the same? And apparently, like it or not, that is their right as citizens to waste it.

This is the same question I will ask our lawmakers, that why they are not the same? They are being differentiated only by a right to vote and which is according to you is the right to waste for some. If I had that right, I will fully take advantage and I will exercise my vote and give my vote to a lawmaker who has a good heart and is willing to fix the unfair laws for Family Unity, Like the Senator Hillary Clinton or Senator Menendez, who took the right step forward by introducing an amendment in the senate three weeks ago which if approved and implemented would have declared "Immediate Relative" language. Or back in 2000 they have introduced a special visa called 'V' visa which was for spouses and kids of such LPR's who were waiting for their approval of immigration petition and could travel back and forth until it was approved. But there was a sunset date on that and was over by the end of year 2000. That was also introduced by another good hearted Senator.

>Good for you. Look at the other side. There are millions to your several.

There are estimated 1.2 million spouses and kids who are on the same boat and are waiting for their immigration petition approval and visa numbers availablity. There is a backlog and they have to wait atleast 5 years of more. And I am 100% positive that 99.99 % of those are the families of engineers/doctors/scientist/IT specialists etc. I am saying it because it takes a lot of money to sponsor for your family to immigrate here. You have to pay a lot of attorney fees. You have to pay a lot of Government applied fees in order to be able to file an immigrant petition for your family and only a person who can afford it can do it.

IF THE PRESIDENT CAN TALK ABOUT GIVING AMNESTY TO 12 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, AND KEY SENATORS WERE BACKING HIM UNTIL FEW DAYS AGO TO PASS A BILL which by the way failed(good to know), IN COMPARE TO WHAT WE ARE ASKING IS TO MAKE LAWS FAIR FOR ONLY 1.2 MILLION LEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO ARE ALREADY WAITING IN LINE AND MAKE THEIR PROCESS FASTER.

>Of what nation are you a citizen?
I represent all the continents (africa, asia, europe, middle east, australia, north america, south america) because we are a big family and thus working for Fair laws for Family unity.

>I want Britain to pay my bills.
Well, I can't help you with that :)

>If your family means that much to you, then go to them.

Like I said earlier, one should not have to choose between a country where he/she has spent so many years of life earning and providing and a loving family.

>

My dear friend, so do you.
Well atleast you consider me your friend, that's a start :)

>Except for the millions with your excuse that are.

Those millions as I said earlier are equally contributing and are part of the society, paying all the taxes, local, state, federal, property, medicare, social security, all the taxes that one has to pay and are like a common citizen like you. No difference.

>Of what nation are you a citizen?
I represent all the continents (africa, asia, europe, middle east, australia, north america, south america) because we are a big family and thus working for Fair laws for Family unity.

A man without a country, a citizen of nowhere: how sad.

>If your family means that much to you, then go to them.

Like I said earlier, one should not have to choose between a country where he/she has spent so many years of life earning and providing and a loving family.

Democracy is great, as long as you realize privileges come with responsibilities. Obviously one means more to you than the other, but you demand the best of both worlds.

with all due respect both to parties, i don't believe that the states need to lower the boundarys for imigration, even though we're ony a small island it's still a major issue for the u.k, let alone the u.s, not only does it blur any official figures as to exactly how many live in a certain area etc, it also put extra strain on the nearby school and hospitals. because they've entered illegally they've not been acounted for and therefore not budgeted for.

yes , although agree it's sad that legal and working imigrants who hold a 'green card' should be denyed the right to have their family with them, but with all the recent events - is it really wise to go softening laws, especially those that govern imigration?
