This actually started (in a convo with Dani) as a simple idea of just upvoting comments made to posts, buuut I quickly got ideas for turning comments into a sort-of Reddit-style thread system, where comments could be collapsed so the original general idea of the forum thread could be viewed. I'd also suggested a user display setting to collapse comment threads by default, but Dani brought up a conflicting idea that if someone made a comment saying some post was wrong or something, users who collapse comments by default wouldn't see it. personally, while this is valid, the responsibility is …

1. No more robocalls. 2. A CyberTrk. May have to wait. 3. A good shawarma for lunch. 4. A new Daniweb home/top page.

I went to Disney World for Thanksgiving break, and all those germs got to me, and I now have bronchitis. On top of it, my laptop (the only computer I have here in California) suffered from battery swell, and needs to have its battery replaced, which means that the Apple store is holding onto it for 5 days. I’m now sick and without a computer for the upcoming week.

Before anyone files a bug report, we are no longer pretty printing (using javascript to add line numbers & color coding) code snippets when on mobile browsers for performance reasons. It's not that it was particularly non-performant on mobile. It's rather just that I'm working hard to improve performance across a variety of devices, and I felt like it wasn't worth the trade-off, given it's an extra second or so of javascript parsing in exchange for making code not all that much more readable when on a mobile device.

Long Title: "Here are some top topics recommended just for you" email recommends a thread deleted two months ago. "what are the feature of window 10" was in my email and that looks to have been removed two months ago. As a moderator I can get to it but is the code behind this in need of a little update to not recommend content that was removed? What about folk that don't have this superpower? I'll forward this email back to you via email with comment. In short: 1. Received email from DW on 11/20/2019. 2. Thought I'd read an …

As of today, DaniWeb offers a completely ad-free experience to sponsors!! What do you think? Is it enough to sway you to donate $5/mo for all the benefits you get?

Sorry for the intermittent downtime over the past few days. We think we were being DDOS'ed, perhaps unclear. However, we've upgraded to new web servers tonight, to bring HTTP/2 support and *finally* move from PHP 5.x to PHP 7. A few years late, I know. Let me know if anything isn't working as it should!

Hi all, I haven't used the forum for a while so lot of the functionalities are new to me and I have to admit I found some of them really counter intuitive/annoying. For a start, the way to reply to threads, that "Reply to this topic" button at the bottom that then turns into a small window which is incredibly annoying. Yes you can press esc and that turns into a full window but there you lose all the formatting options (code, quote etc): why can't we hav a normal full size window with all the options to reply to …

How do I change my account picture?

Have been trying to change my profile pic via the community profile update avatar option. I keep getting told that 'The image you are attempting to upload doesn't fit into the allowed dimensions.' However, there is no clue as to what the allowed dimesions might be. The one I'm trying to upload has been sized down to 490x653 (171kb) and I can't recall what the limits previously were, will keep trying smaller and smaller - but thought it might be an idea to flag the max size in the error message that is thrown up.

Member profiles now have a new statistic that measures impact. It counts how many people the user has reached. It should be noted that we just started calculating this number earlier this year, so at this time, the highest number is roughly one million.

When I leave a comment (vote with comment ) under someone post , it will increase 2 points for vote up and 0 point for vote down. After I leave the comment and click the vote up button, the user earn 2 points. But after I vote down again, the comment get removed but the user still earning 2 points. The two points should be deducted too, no ? Thanks.

Recently I realized that I not receive any email notification from DaniWeb. When I check on the User Settings, I saw this alert message > We have been having problems emailing you. Has your email address changed? Please update your email address to begin receiving email from us again. After I re-write my email, this message changed to > An email to verify your account has been sent to xxx@hotmail.com. Please click the link in the email to confirm your email address. But when I check my mail, I don't receive any email from DaniWeb.

I just got a PM from a user who said "Hello! I'm <username>. Nice to meet you! Let's connect." What I know about this user is precisely zero. Before I respond to a "let's connect" request I'd like to know a little bit about this user. In the old Daniweb I would just go o that user's profile page and read whatever he/she had decided to share. How do I do that now? And if I can't do that, what incentive do I have to respond?

I'm trying to save DaniWeb. :) What are the biggest pain points you have with DaniWeb? If you don't visit DaniWeb as much as you used to, what changed? Where do you go now instead of DaniWeb? What makes other resources better?

As I understand it, there were problems on Sunday (Feb 24) which caused problems logging in. Daniweb would not accept my password (or so it said). Normally when I go to login I get presented with the login page with my userID (reverend Jim) and password already filled in. Now I was getting the login page with my email address instead of my userID. Manually entering my userID and password resulted in an indication that my password was incorrect. I clicked on the "Reset Password" which is supposed to send a reset email to a given address (which I entered). …

It is with deep regret that I inform everyone that it just very recently came to my attention that the DaniWeb database was breached in December 2015. Over a million user profiles, including email addresses and IP addresses, were stolen. Logins and passwords were protected through an additional security layer and were **NOT** able to be stolen. While encrypted versions of passwords were stolen, without access to the old version of DaniWeb's code base, there is no way for a hacker to figure out the very unique encryption method, which included multiple unique salts, which we used. Please note this …
