Not if Iran wipes us off the map first :)

I read that Hillary's remark was in regard to Iran attacking Israel. One way to get Jewish votes and sound tough at the same time. Poor Obama, he looks like a naive Sunday school teacher.

To wipe the USA off the map would take well over 10,000 nuclear bombs of the primitive type Iran would produce.

Oops!

What's the oops for? I think you hit the nail right on the hammer. It's in the government's interest to scare the public, so they can spend more on the military.

This has been said by a wise person a long time ago:
"Keep your fears to yourself, but share your inspiration with others."

>>It's in the government's interest to scare the public, so they can spend more on the military.

Spending more on military is GOOD for the economy, it gives people jobs. Someone has to make all those cloths, bullets, tanks, etc. etc. I don't think we get much of that from China or Japan. So does your statement mean you don't want people to have jobs ?

No, I want those people to develop better energy sources, more fuel efficient clean cars, better medicines, improve healthcare, repair bridges and roads, produce energy efficient affordable housing, turn out much smarter students, and , oh yes, make this country safe without having to kill everyone else ...

You sound like a broken record there AD! :)

That's a big problem, because we can't control what other countries do, unless of course we invade and destroy a sovern nation like Bush did. The primary job of the federal government is the security of this nation, not giving free medicane etc to everyone who wants it.

In the US, if a person gets sick, goes to the hospital and then can't pay the bill, the rest of the hospital users pay for it in inflated bills. Let's face it, just a goofy type of 'take from the wealthier to pay the poorer' socialism.

France is doing one swell job, we just send off another big high tech nuclear submarine to join the French fleet. Watch out Iran, Germany, China or Russia!

Well, it doesn't work quite that way in my state (Illinois). Hospitals can not turn anyone away, that much is true. But all they are required to do is supply life-threatening medical services. Once past that, out the door they go.

So who is the God like person that decides what is life-threatening? If they turn a person away and that person dies soon after, can relatives sue the hospital?

Another thought entirely, it becomes more and more apparent that rapidly increasing food prices will be much more of a thread to peace then some muslim fanatic.

I don't know -- probably the hospital administrators.

They can sue but would not get anything. And death has happened.

Maybe home gardens will become more popular. Tear up the nicely manicured lawns and plant beans and corn.

they can if they find the hospital to have been negligient by not treating them.

That may be true in UK where you already have socialized medicine, but not in USA. Here, the law only requires hospitals to provide life-threatening care to uninsured people. Here is a more detail explaination of the 1986 law.

isnt it really scary to be in the US? to know that you are really screwed if you hurt yourself/get ill ?

Not me. I have all the insurance I need, and I have never been without health insurance. But I guess it is a little scary for the poor and lower-middle-class who can not afford it. They are the ones we need to target with new free health benefits. The rest of us can pay for it ourselves.

I like having the peace of mind.

Joining the military, even as a pencil pusher, will give you free lifetime healthcare.

The person I like to see as president is one that looks at the younger generation, particularly the generation that is not allowed to vote yet, as the future of the country and not just a thing that can be sacrificed in some war they dream up. On top of that, many of the candidates assume that we are the thing that can pay for the dang war too!

I like the tale one of the morning radio guys tells. He had a brain tumor. He's doing fine. A relative of his in the UK had a similar thing. He was told to either go to the US for treatment, or go home and be comfortable until he dies. He passed away a while back.

I like the made up tale one of the morning radio guys tells.

Radio Talk Show Hosts are a popular source of BS tales. They have a captive audience in all those guys that drive their pickup trucks to work.

Only is you stay in the military 20 or more years and retire with an honorable discharge. anything less get you zero.

thats bad though, because it means that all the people who are too poor/dumb to get real jobs join the army.

If you join the US military at 18, you can retire at age 38 with a pension, college assistance and free healthcare. Not bad, since everyone else has to wait till they are 65+ for medicare and SS. Makes you wonder who the smart person is?

provided you dont die.

It may not be free any more. You can find all the info you need here.

Until I turned 65 last February we had to pay a co-fee for doctor's visits and 20% of hospital costs up to a maxmimum amount each year. Now, I don't pay anything even for medican because what medicare doesn't cover the military hospital benefints (TriCare For Life) will pay.

And there is no SS penalty for military retirement. So now I draw two government pensions -- military retirement pay as well as social security. Not bad for 23 years work in the US military.

It would be interesting to find out that other countries do for their military people.

All politicians get money in return for political favors! That's the idea!

Is an earmark something like an earring?

No, an earmark, despite its name, is really worn around the astragalus by women of high breeding.
