Good, god. Haven't you ever heard of proofreading?

And to answer your question, jealousy is fine as long as you use it productively.

I think that you really mean envy rather than jealousy

Jealousy is an emotion and typically refers to the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something that the person values, such as a relationship, friendship, or love. Jealousy often consists of a combination of emotions such as anger, sadness, and disgust. Jealousy differs from envy in that jealousy is about something one has and is afraid of losing, while envy refers to something one does not have and either wants to acquire or to prevent another from acquiring.

There are the definitions of those two words -- non-native English speakers may not realize the difference between the two words.

Envy (also called invidiousness) may be defined as an emotion that "occurs when a person lacks another’s [perceived] superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it."[1] It can also derive from a sense of low self-esteem that results from an upward social comparison threatening a person's self image: another person has something that the envier considers to be important to have. If the other person is perceived to be similar to the envier, the aroused envy will be particularly intense, because it signals to the envier that it just as well could have been him or her who had the desired object.[2][3]

so wonderful jelocy and Envy ,
The MADHURE english-sinhala dictionary shows clearly the difference
between these two words. and yes that difference is on our language too. But I think the problem is the ppl who speaks Sinhala-English mix ( like me ) uses that word "jealosy" simply for the envy. however thanks for showing me the difference , I will try to use these words in appropriate way.

I'm a native English speaker and I've always used the two words interchangeably, as in "I am jealous that you have a nice car and I don't." Apparently I need to replace "jealous" with "envious".

At any rate, jealousy/envy is good if it helps motivate you in a positive direction, bad if it causes you to go into a counterproductive rage or depression. If you get a B and someone else gets an A and that makes you envious, which causes you to buckle down and study, then envy is good. If it causes you to give up and drop out of school since you think you're worthless, then envy is bad. You can apply this to just about anything (work, school, dating, physical fitness). If jealousy/envy/hate/fear increases your will power/drive to succeed, it's good. If not, it's bad.

OMG! What a beautify written language! I just googled the language - does it have a cursive? Is this one of those languages that, when you get to the end of a line (left to right) turn the script upside-down and continue right to left?

Dang! Wish I could see samples of how Sinhala looks when written on paper, sigh!

Yeah, Jell-o is made from a gelatin of ungulates' hooves, bones, and connective tissue - the collagen bits. No way to justify Jell-O to vegetarians.

As long as you don't end up killing or hurting anyone, everything will be ooookay. Isn't this website suppossed to be for computer science? Well, anywho, I belive that jealousy, maybe envy? ... Jealousy can be encouraging, by trying to be better than someone else, you are trying to be better, right? If you acomplish it, then you have become a better person and have learned more, as long as it isn't HATRED like wanting t hurt that person or somehow, I believe that would be envy, but other people might probably know of another meaning ... envy is a sin, right?

Jealousy is good as long as you do something good with it, okay? ^^

I'm jealous of your jello shots.

And how do you feel about Jello shorts?

Is that an 'edible underwear' joke?

Perhaps applicable, but really it just seemed like a very odd thing to contemplate wearing. ;)

Ohhh Yuuuk! You should be banned for even thinking that:icon_eek:

I'm jealous of your jello shots.

? Uh, does that even have a real meaning?

native US-English or British-English ?

Im guessing that guy is from the USA. Im British, and i must say most people say jealous when they mean envy.

That said though, the truth is that the vast majority of native speakers speak the language wrong.

and the language translation tools are currently in a beata stage for the sinhala-english. I have seen a translation software at Infotel exhibition 2008. They said
that they wish to opensource that. :)

as I knew there is a difference between the mathematical language and a human
language.

example you can correctly 100% convert java to C. But you can't do it for
English to Russian.

so what I telling is human language is not formally defined , and cannot parse
100% right using a computer. so how can you say vast majority of native speakers speak language wrong ? There is not an extract mathematical definition. But my viewpoint from Natural language processing ( next semester
we have that as a course) different from a viewpoint of an language specialist .

100% true jealousy is really encouraging ppl. Unless her my marks will be like
40% , 30% like that. But my marks are above 80% and her marks are above 90%
that's another story. I never paid her any money or she is not my girlfriend, but I passed and get B+ becos of her. Actually thanks to
her.
After 15 of this month we are no longer at the same class( end of sem 5). They are going to break us into departments. I wish I should Thank her and talk with her , but believe me I have did continuously this around 30 months , even not talk a single bit of words with her same class same facility studied same subjects.

And continuously that never give-up feeling is inside me still today even. If I
be honest my deep thought continuously saying me , "don't go and talk with her
the game is not yet finished ! and she should come and talk with me cos I am
smart !" . However I know thinking like this is really a wrong.

However someday ( after a long long time , in very far future) I think we can shake hands and talk with each other ! And I knew she isn't also a bad person.
But I never likes to give up as she.

i think if you love what you are doing, you dont need to compare yourself to others to get motivated. If you put some art or spirit in your work, it will be something incomparable anyway. I like Marty Friedman a lot and i dont think he compares his guitar playing to anyone else. As long as you get the pleasure from what you do, why would you compare yourself to others? i think jealousy occurs when you dont find any joy in what you are doing and trying to push yourself by looking other people.

Why don't you just go talk to her if you want to? Why wait until years into the future so you can shake hands? If you want to thank her, thank her. Ask her if she wants to study for the final with you. That's a good ice breaker. Or just say hello.

Nice Idea vernonDozier: I really like to shake hands and enjoy a little chat with her.
And I clearly knows she also likes that.

But my deep mind always saying no ! I don't know why ? I'm really good in making
company with even foreigners but she is different , I think she is the only person like that exist in this universe . may be that's going to happen end of this universe.
