Yea, you hit it dead on pretty much. Phi is the golden ratio= ((square root of 5) + 1)/2 (I have no clue how to display this in the tex code..

Approximately equal to 1.618034, the 'divine proportion' is a geometric proportion that was discovered long ago, exists throughout nature, and not much is known about its significance. It can be derived via 3 ways (I think.. geometry, math, and through the Fibonacci sequence are the only ways I know of). It is very interesting how it is derived through Fibonacci. The Fibonacci sequence is 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,etc. (add the previous value to the current to get the next). Any term divided by the previous term in the sequence is approximately equal to phi (3/2=1.5, 21/13=1.615, etc.). Basically, the limit as the sequence approaches very high numbers, the sum of one term/previous term=phi

Phi is prominent in the human body as sk8 mentioned (another one is one's height divided by the distance from the ground to one's bellybutton. Many different flowers and plants have their petals arranged in a manner that represents phi.. Phi even appears in our dna, many mathematical graphs (population, exponential, some sinusoidal, etc.). It is also found in the bible and in history.. A very interesting topic of which we know little about.. I find it very intriguing :)
