Dearest One,

I am the only Daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs.Bayo .A, George. My father was a highly reputable busnness magnet who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days.

It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously in France during one of his business trips abroad on the 12th September 2003. Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled with him at that time. But God knows the truth! My mother died when I was just 6yrs old, and since then my father took me so special.

Before his death on September 2003, he called me and informed me that he has the sum of Ten Million, Seven Hundred thousand United State Dollars.(USD$10,700,000.00)left in fixed deposit account in one of the leading banks in Africa. He further told me that he deposited the money in my name, and also gave me all the necessary but legal documents to this fund with the bank.

I am just 21 years old and a university undergraduate and really don't know what to do. Now I want an account overseas where I can transfer this funds and after the transaction I will come and reside permanently in your country till such a time that it will be convinient for me to return back home if I so desire. This is because I have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis here in Ivory coast. The death of my father actually brought sorrow to my life. I also want to invest the fund under your care because I am ignorant of business world.

I am in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards. Your suggestions and ideas will be highly regarded. Now permit me to ask these few questions:

1. Can you honestly help me from your heart?
2. Can I completely trust you?
3. What percentage of the total amount in question
will be good for you after the money is in your
account?

Please, consider this and get back to me as soon as possible. Immedaitely I confirm your willingness, I will send to you The Detail and also inform you more details involved in this matter.

Kind Regards,
Miss Anne Marie Bayo

I hate stuff like that, ughh....

At last i've found that PM would not be a PM..

I have not received any PMs like that; but, I have received numerous e-mails of similar nature. Looking at the address provided makes me wonder what that service provider may be doing with people's address books. It seems that my own account through them is the one under assault by phishing scams and spam alike. My two other e-mail accounts seem to suffer no such problem. Might be a good idea to edit your address book, and watch where you visit on the web. Sad to see this stuff...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guard my email address with a passion and don't get any spam, scams, or phishing expeditions. In the two years that I have been on line this is the first time that I have received anything other than messages from members, and I thought that you would not be able to pm me without being a member. Hopefully a moderator will see this and be able answer that question and perhaps look into taking this member out of the loop.

Edit: Huzzah, I just went back to that pm and checked the user's profile and they are banned. Obviously someone else is thinking the same way, my thanks to the responsible moderator.

If you get spam PMs again, I suggest forwarding them to one of the administrators -- Dani (cscgal) or Davey (happygeek), and they will take care of such matters quickly.

I found the following PM today and wanted to share it with you all, it is a scam. Has anyone else received this message?

Ah, yes, the Nigerian Scam... I gotta have some fun with this one....

Yahoo from France, you in WAfrica? Interesting -- it really is a global world...

Dearest One,

Yes, beautiful?

I am the only Daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs.Bayo .A, George. My father was a highly reputable busnness magnet who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days.

Was he a bar magnet or an electro-magnet?

It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously in France during one of his business trips abroad on the 12th September 2003.

Sounds like foul play. What did the autopsy show?

Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled with him at that time.

And...? A dangling sentence.

But God knows the truth!

Good, ask Him. He knows more than me!

My mother died when I was just 6yrs old, and since then my father took me so special.

So you were rather ordinary up until 6, eh? If that's what it takes to make you special, you have other problems.

Cool! I'm sure he did -- and just before he died, too. Probably the week before.

I am just 21 years old and a university undergraduate and really don't know what to do.

Go the the dang bank, tell them who you are, and be rich! Or better yet, sign over all those legal documents to me and you won't have to worry about it. You're too young for the money anyway.

Now I want an account overseas where I can transfer this funds and after the transaction I will come and reside permanently in your country till such a time that it will be convinient for me to return back home if I so desire. This is because I have suffered a lot of set backs as a result of incessant political crisis here in Ivory coast.

So move. Who's stopping you?

The death of my father actually brought sorrow to my life.

It did? Don't be such a woose! Be strong! Stand tall! Hold your head up and proclaim to the world "I am an orphan! I am special! My daddy even said so!"

I also want to invest the fund under your care because I am ignorant of business world.

Let's see, you are in a university and ignorant of the business world. I can think of one possible thing you might want to do... Three guesses.

I am in a sincere desire of your humble assistance in this regards. Your suggestions and ideas will be highly regarded.

Sure. Send me the documents with power of attorney signed over to me. Send me the bank numbers and contact information. I'll call you afterwards.

Now permit me to ask these few questions:

1. Can you honestly help me from your heart?

More from my pocket, but yeah. As much as most people.

2. Can I completely trust you?

Trust must be earned, doesn't it? Send me the documents and earn my trust.

3. What percentage of the total amount in question
will be good for you after the money is in your
account?

Oh, I'm not greedy. A 3-4 million would suffice. and enough above that to pay the taxes, I guess.

Please, consider this and get back to me as soon as possible. Immedaitely I confirm your willingness, I will send to you The Detail and also inform you more details involved in this matter.

But I thought you didn't know anything? That's why you wanted me to be your business manager? Just send me the papers you have and I'll let you know what I can do.

Kind Regards,
Miss Anne Marie Bayo

Since you're a girl, why don't you just come over here and we can talk face to face. Are you pretty?

Get back to me soon. Breathlessly awaiting your answer.

Interesting. Google search turns up for "Miss Anne Marie Bayo"

I am the only Daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs.Bayo .A, George. My father was a highly reputable busnness magnet who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days.

I am Miss Anne Marie Bayo the only daughter of Deceased Mr. and Mrs.NELSON ANDRE. My father was a very wealthy gold merchant in Abidjan , the economic capital of Ivory coast,my father is from kwazulu-natal while mum is from a city called Krasnogorsk in Russain, so I am mixed. my father was involved in a ghastly motor accident and later died in the little way
hospital here.

I am 19 years old. I am from Dablama in eastern province of Sierra Leone. I lived with my mother in Freetown before the civil war started. An explosion in our school made me lose my hearing during the civil war. My mother told me that my father left us when I was two years old. I became an orphan last year when my mother died after illness from liver infection.

Apparently My late father, had provided for us afterall! My father Leon Basile Bayo was in the neighbouring country doing very well in ivory and pine apple trade.

Looks like she's having a really rough life. So are her parents -- all six of them.

There's a simple explanation as to why the girl has six parents, Walt: They're adopted--- along with the stories she writes, and any sponsors she manages to collect(from) along the way...
The really sad thing is that someone, somewhere, will fall for this stuff.
By the way--- I like your narrative interpretation. It's creative...

WaltP...you have way too much time on your hands.

The first thing I did when I saw this in my pm was to google it, I just wanted to see how old this one was. And yes someone somewhere will be gullible enough to fall for this, why else would they persist.

I wonder what made them think that I was a good candidate? I don't use an avatar, but after this I may have to make one of some dupe with a lollypop on their forehead.

just another 419 scam. Get dozens of those a day, scattered in with the hundreds of attempts to sell me viagra and other medication (probably fakes) and email virusses.
And they all go the same way, straight into /dev/null
Today's tally: 1000 spam, 2 posts to a mailing list I subscribe to, and nothing else...

Thanks.... I had fun. And if you want to really have some fun, check out http://www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm! The The Tale of The Painted Breast letter is long, but really fun!

Long???? That's a tome! Turning the scam back on him was great.

Thanks, Walt... Got a new shortcut there... The concept these guys embrace may not wipe out this type of crime, but the idea of giving the scammers a dose of their own medicine has an appeal all its own...

They never quit.. Here is the one I got.. :)

I got that one this morning as well. Good news is that Bitte is now banned.

Yep, if you get a scam PM just forward it to me and Dani (best do both to ensure the quickest response, what with being in different time zones) and we will see the user is banned as soon as possible.
