I still don't see how people are using their common sense... I mean its one thing to be intellectual... it's another to be capable of utilizing your common sense.

If people had to use knives instead of guns to kill people the death toll would go down... duh. Come one people... stop trying to be so intelligent and think about what you're saying! Why do you NEED handguns? What the crap... I think this thread has turned into an ego issue rather than a sensible debate. You expect everyone in the world to be oh so open-minded when you're picking apart every post we make... take your own medicine for crying out loud. That's all i have to say about it... go ahead, post and bash my message. Prove me right.

ok.. If guns were illegal, whos to say this man wouldn't buy one off the black market.. or simply make a BOMB, which would kill many more people! Guns are not the ones to blame here.. It's a waste of time to debate whether or not to abolish the use of firearms in the U.S... b/c it's not going to happen anytime soon!

yeah that makes since... like i said, why ban heroin? They can get oxycotin or better, they can just get heroin off the streets... lets just make it all legal. Good logic ;)

I
There is a misconception that has been mentioned here regarding the second amendment to the constitution regarding the right to bare arms. Courts have consistently held that the amendment's language--"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed"--only gives the states the right to maintain well-regulated militias, which since 1903 have taken the form of the National Guard.

What do you mean? It does only give the states the right to maintain a well-regulated militia, but it also guarantees all U.S. citizens the right to bear arms.

I'm just saying that banning something doesn't work; it never has.. Look what happened when alcohol was prohibited, and drugs today.. Just b/c it's illegal doesn't mean some1 can't get a hold of it.. So it's out of our hands, there is nothing we can do to stop people from owning firearms. We need to look for a more logical solution.

I provided the courts definition in my previous post.

where is your logic? Does it simply stand on we can't get this done so just look over it? You don't think more people own guns because they're legal?? You don't think more people would do drugs if they were legal? Come on, you're smarter than that.

Which ones are harder to get?
Bombs or a handgun? Hmm...

It wasn't just the worst school shooting (Columbine comes to mind). This was actually the most lethal massacre / deadliest shooting rampage in the history of the US.

Perhaps, but not the scariest. It was all over before most people knew it even started. If anyone remembers from a few years ago the highway sniper? Some guy was picking people off the I-70 in Columbus, OH (where I live). I had to take that highway to get to school and I dreaded it, no matter how unlikely I knew the chances were of getting shot.

I was actually out on the road when the news broadcasted the night this all happened, so I'm a little behind on the details. Was there ever any reason given why the guy did it?

Have you ever made a bomb? From what I've heard, It is relatively easy to make one.. Look at Columbine.

if they're so easy then why don't people use bombs more often than guns?

I am simply implying that there is no way that we will be able to rid the entire country of guns and ammunition. It just isn't possible. And I can guarantee you that congress will never do such a thing.. Do you know how much the NRA spends on lobbying each year?

if they're so easy then why don't people use bombs more often than guns?

b/c guns are much easier to purchase as you said.. But if guns were illegal, then more people may use bombs.. And which is more deadly?

the NRA is stupid. they went to columbine town the same week of the shooting to promote guns... I have no respect anyone who would belong to the NRA. period

Have you ever made a bomb? From what I've heard, It is relatively easy to make one.. Look at Columbine.

Yeah, look at Columbine. I wish people would.
Columbine - High School, 2 shooters/bombers, ~12 dead.
Virginia Tech - University, 1 shooter, 33 dead + many others injured.

b/c guns are much easier to purchase as you said.. But if guns were illegal, then more people may use bombs.. And which is more deadly?

i disagree... people use guns mostly because of rage, split second decisions. You actually think people would have pre-made bombs for such occasions? No

True, but from what I've heard this South Korean dude bought a gun long before this happened.. He had obviously been planning it; It wasn't split second rage.

Yeah, but it surely wasn't a year like the Columbine killers.

wait... i thought it was a right as a citizin to own a gun? hm..

so since he bought a handgun he was obviously planning something... now you're using your common sense!

I personally have never owned a gun.. And I couldn't care less if guns were made illegal. I don't think it would necessarily be a bad idea.. But, you've got to look at the larger picture. It isn't guns that kill people, it's people who kill people. Gun ownership is a constitutional right (regardless of what dcc says), and the US govt will never make guns illegal. Ever.

ok, that's not what we're trying to point out tho. we're simply trying to say, when the 2nd ammendment was written, i seriously doubt they thought people would own handguns and automatic rifles... hunting rifles are fine by me... but when it comes to hand guns and whatnot... it's deffinitely an ego thing that needs to be worked out.

True dat!

No kidding. Our forefathers never dreamed that America would be what it is today.. With so many people who aren't christian, all the pornography and 'sin'. But so what? The 2nd amendment will not be changed.

which is dumb. i personally think the government should stop being so worried about political correctness and about upseting certain groups and for once do something to better the nation. they need to stop being a giant whimp.

I agree with that.. The U.S. govt is way too concerned about being 'politically correct'.

People should just be more sensitive to this thread.

maybe we should just be nice to each other. if people were nicer, things like that wouldn't happen. And the government should start to enforce laws instead of just making them.

Exactly. I definitely believe any individual can make a difference.

ah, a happy point in the thread. this is nice.

hah.. that sounds great and all, but it wont happen. Most people care only about themselves

Then what are we supposed to do? Sit back and do nothing?
