I had this question put to me by a friend who is building a website and he does not know a lot about SEO. As I do most of my SEO tasks tool-free (I find it is the best way to learn), I am not certain so I am coming to the seo forum. what are the best, all-around, multi-function seo tools (both free and not)?

Jump to PostI don't have first hand experience, but I hear that Aaron Wall's SeoBook tools are pretty good. Same with Rand Fishkin's SEOmoz.
Jump to PostThere's two: Spellcheck and Code Validator
Jump to PostSeoquake would be a nice choice. It is a nice add-on for Firefox and bring back all seo information you need. :)
Jump to PostMktgRob, Seoquake is available for FF and for IE.
As for multi-function seo solution I would recommend Web CEO.
