Online Brand Communities

Hello everybody,

My name is John Cassidy and since approx. 2 years I have been doing research on Social Media and narrowed it down to Online Communities last year.

At the moment I can benefit from this by writing my master thesis on the topic. For this reason I have just created an online survey on the "Attractiveness of online communities - a user’s perspective"

I like the survey but I felt that the education question did not reflect me. I have a Master's degree and I had to put it as other since university degree usually implies a BA/BS and then the next option was a PhD. The issue with the Other option is that someone who has a certificate in marketing could also put it as other. Just my two cents.

I am with InsightDigital on both points. Nice survey but you need to expand the education level options for more accurate results.

I will take this into consideration when analyzing the data. I myself have a double-degree Masters and MBA but being Swiss to me a master counts as a university degree. I should have posted this more clearly as an MBA would be more typical as further education after a Bachelor's degree in the U.S. and U.K. I imagine.

I am still working on my BS. I currently have a two year degree. Your credentials are absolutely valid in terms of education. You also have to consider that there are people working out there who have no formal seconday education.

Interesting article. The model the author proposes reminds me a little of the channel marketing model that is prevalent in business. For those not familiar with channel marketing, a manufacturer sells products to a distributor and the distributor is awarded cooperative marketing funds based on a percentage of product bought. These funds can be used to fund marketing programs geared at increasing sales of the product and also to promote the relationship between the manufacturer and the distributor. They can also be used to by promotional products that can be given to the sales staff to use at events (branded shirts, hats, mugs, mousepads, etc). If the distributor wants to keep earning the coop funds they keep buying the product and then using the coop funds to increase sales. The cycle continues on and on.

Thanks to google finally realising that short links are more practical they came up with something completely new - smart links, basically translating the URL into English.
