1 white hat techniques- following guidelines of search engine.
2 black hat techniques- disobeying guidelines of search engine.
3 grey hat techniques- 75% of white hat + 25% of black hat.

Now a days, grey hat is more famous than black hat.
Black is not so good for website. Through this your website can ban.

3types of hat

1.Black hat SEO denotes to techniques & strategies used to get higher search rankings, and its breaking search engine rules. Black hat SEO concentrate on only search engines.

2.White hat SEO denotes to the use of techniques and strategies that goal a human audience opposed to a search engine. Techniques that are naturally used in white hat SEO include using keywords, and keyword research, rewriting Meta tags, back linking, link building as well as writing content for human readers.

3.Grey hat SEO which is neither black nor white. This is a technique that does not fully use the black hat SEO and rather combines both. This is a transformation from black to white and from white to black. Whether it is due to pressure from the website or company or to deliver better results, some SEO companies may practice Grey hat SEO to some extent. They may not cross the line to black hat SEO.
